Job Title: Senior Legal Advisor
Job Purpose: To provide high quality legal advice and operational policy advice on a range of complex issues arising across the Operations of Tullow in Uganda, and East Africa in general,
Responsibilities:
• To provide Legal and regulatory advice and support to management and staff. Areas of particular focus may be: i)Ugandan legal and regulatory matters, ii) Petroleum law and legislation, iii) East African Community and common market aspects, iv) Land and Communities, v)Environmental legislation and obligations, vi) National and regional labour legislation.
• Focal point for Uganda joint venture and service contractor parties as required.
• Responsible for identifying legal risks and proposing appropriate control frameworks to mitigate the risks to ensure business continuity.
• Managing external Ugandan counsel to handle company legal issues, as required.
• Offer Company secretarial support to the board and management team.
• University degree in Law with preference of masters in oil and gas law or related field.
• Post graduate diploma in legal practice from Law Development Centre.
• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• 10 years work experience in a commercial legal environment either in private practice, firm, in-house or other business environment.
• Proven experience in:
i)Drafting and advising on commercial agreements, I) Contractual and legislative/regulatory matters
• Preferred experience in:
i) Oil and gas contractual and regulatory matters.
ii) Labour legislation in an African or European jurisdiction.
iii) Commercial Negotiating.
Skills:
• Report Writing.
• Data interpretation and analysis.
• Presentation skills.
• Strong engagement skills.
• Strong negotiating skills.
