Africa Harvest Biotech Foundation International: Jobs and Vacancies in Kenya

Africa Harvest Biotech Foundation International (AHBFI or Africa Harvest) is an International Technology Development and Transfer Foundation incorporated in the United States of America as a non-profit organization. It has its headquarters in Kenya and operational regional offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, Toronto Canada and Washington D.C in the U.S.A.

The Vision of the foundation is Africa free of hunger, poverty, and malnutrition. The Foundation seeks to empower rural communities in Africa by providing appropriate technologies to boost their food production and income (see our website www.africaharvest.org). The Foundation is seeking to recruit a dynamic person to the positions of Field Project Coordinator based in Kitui who will also serve as an Assistant Project Manager. The successful candidate will be offered an initial two year contract to coordinate the project implementation in Kitui, Nzaui and Makueni districts in Eastern Province.

Key Responsibility:
Reporting to the Project Manager, within the Technology Deployment Programme, the Field Coordinator’s
responsibilities will include the following:
1. Mobilizing smallholder farmers into operational groups and building their capacity in identified gaps
2. Supporting adoption of horticulture and traditional crops innovations and technologies- e.g. tissue culture
banana, sorghum, millets and on-farm trees
3. Promoting improvement of soil fertility and productivity at community and farm levels through use of manure and soil fertility enhancing crops
4. Promoting improvement of water conservation, harvesting and management through appropriate techniques
5. Supporting short cycle livestock production for dairy goats, sheep and poultry
6. Data collection, compiling reports and submitting same to the project manager
7. Networking with diverse stakeholders

Academic Qualifications and Experience:
• A degree in agriculture, veterinary, science or any other relevant field
• Five year hands on experience implementing projects with similar scope
• Team player, self driven, strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Good organizational and management skills.
• High level of computer literacy.
• Networking and people skills
• Excellent oral and writing skills
