Masinde Muliro University: Jobs and Vacancies in Kenya

Founded in 2002, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), is a leading institution of higher education in Kenya. The vision of the university is “To be a centre of excellence in Science and Technology responsive to development needs of society through engagement in dynamic knowledge creation and application”.

As part of our strategy to realize our goals and objectives, and in compliance with the provisions of Section 12(1) of the MMUST Act 2006, we are seeking to recruit qualified, talented, creative and innovative team members of unquestionable integrity, from among the professors of the University, to fill the positions of

Deputy Vice- Chancellors on a three (3) year contract term, eligible for renewal on mutual agreement.

1. DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR (ACADEMIC AFFAIRS): AD/15/06/10
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the academic affairs division of the University, and will have the following responsibilities:
• Providing leadership in pursuit of the mission and vision as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
• Promotion of scholarship and transfer of skills.
• Co-ordination of academic collaboration with other institutions of higher learning both local and international.
• Management of student affairs.
• Preparation and implementation of courses and examinations.
• Management and co-ordination of research and post-graduate studies.
• Initiating programs in research, scholarships, student and staff exchange.
• Mobilizing resources for the furtherance of the academic ideals of the University.
• Initiating, co-ordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating strategic plans.
• Initiating, co-ordinating and implementing divisional plans.
• Carrying out other academic functions that may contribute to the welfare of the institution.

Qualifications
• Applicants should be full professors with PhD and with experience of at least ten (10) years at a senior administrative and management level in a university
or an equivalent institution of higher learning.
• Must demonstrate experience in ably and diligently managing and executing tasks and duties relating to student and academic affairs in a university or an
equivalent institution of higher learning.
• Must have experience in teaching and research in a university or an equivalent institution of higher learning and must have published widely.
• Must be an eminent scholar with international recognition through fellowships, joint research programs, grants, staff and student exchange.
• Should demonstrate an appreciation of global educational issues.
• Must have proven skills in the application of ICT in education and research.
• Must have an outstanding and internationally recognized record in scholarship and academic leadership.

2. DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR (ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE): AD/16/06/10
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor, the successful candidate will be responsible for both the administrative and financial operations of the University, and will have the following responsibilities:
• Leading teams in pursuit of the mission and vision as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
• Determining and advising the University Council on development needs with respect to students, facilities, infrastructure and human capital requirements.
• Co-ordinating budget preparation and ensuring that both medium and annual term expenditures are consistent with the Strategic Plan and scheduled timelines.
• Managing operations of procurement and finance departments and profit centres within the University.
• Managing all the administrative matters of the University including those relating to students, facilities and infrastructure.
• Coordinating the division’s performance, management and feedback processes based on set targets.
• Mobilizing of resources that the University may need to execute its mission.
• Initiating, co-ordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating the Strategic Plan.
• Carrying out other finance and administrative functions that may contribute to the welfare of the institution.

Qualifications:
• Applicants should be full Professors with Ph.D and with experience of at least ten (10) years at a senior administrative and management level in a University or an equivalent institution of higher learning.
• Must have experience in teaching and research in a University or an equivalent institution of higher learning and must have published widely.
• Should demonstrate an appreciation of global educational issues.
• Must have proven skills in the application of ICT in education and research.
• Must have good knowledge of best practice in human capital management and development, strategic planning and change management.
• Must be experienced in initiating, co-ordinating and implementing institutional plans.

3. DEPUTY VICE-CHANCELLOR (PLANNING, RESEARCH AND EXTENSION): AD/17/06/10
Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor, the successful candidate will be responsible for the planning, research and extension division of the University, and will have the following responsibilities:

• Providing leadership in pursuit of the mission and vision as outlined in the Strategic Plan.
• Initiating, co-ordinating, implementing, monitoring and evaluating strategic plans.
• Initiating, co-ordinating and implementing divisional plans.
• Co-ordination of research, extension and outreach programs and ensure skills and technology transfer to industry and society.
• Mobilization of financial support for extension programs and activities.
• Promotion and co-ordination of publications and extension services.
• Promotion, management and collaboration in extension linkages, programs and activities.
• Carrying out other planning, research and extension functions that may contribute to the welfare of the institution.

Qualifications
• Applicants should be full professors with PhD and with experience of at least ten (10) years at a senior administrative and management level in a university or an equivalent institution of higher learning.
• Must demonstrate experience in ably and diligently managing and executing tasks and duties relating to planning, research and extension in a university or
an equivalent institution of higher learning.
• Must have experience in teaching and research in a university or an equivalent institution of higher learning and must have published widely.
• Should demonstrate an appreciation of global educational issues.
• Must have proven skills in the application of ICT in planning, education and research.
• Must have an outstanding and internationally recognized record in scholarship and academic leadership.

Associate Professors who meet the above qualifications, save for full professorship, may be considered for the positions.

Remuneration: Competitive remuneration will be offered to the successful candidates.
