Africare: COMMUNITY NUTRITION CO-ORDINATOR

Africare, a US based charity is implementing MYAP Food Security Project with funding from USAID through ACDI/VOCA in the Teso region. To achieve its objectives, Africare seeks to recruit motivated young and dynamic persons to fill the position of Community Nutrition Coordinator. This position entails both technical and supervision responsibilities. You shall take leadership responsibility of Nutrition Interventions of Africare MYAP program. You will also assume responsibility for proper use of all project resources (Human and material) and supplies under your supervision. You will be based at Soroti office directly reporting to the MYAP Project Coordinator.

Responsibilities:
1 Lead all technical day -to-day field/community level activities and supervise all MYAP community Nutrition and Training Extension officers' activities undertaken in target villages.
2 Closely supervise and monitor the performance of all Extension Officers and make periodic performance appraisals of each Field Extension Officer, and make necessary recommendations to the Project Coordinator,
3 Lead the development, review and up-date of Community Nutrition Training Manuals, field guides and standards to ensure safe and healthy approaches and practices recommended for target communities
4 Take lead in the development and implementation of community based nutrition /sanitation approach, through evolution of community resource persons.
5 Provide technical support to Extension Officers in conducting community based participatory nutrition /sanitation education sessions.
6 Key person in development concept papers and proposals in health and nutrition.
7 Liaise with target communities on the progress of all Africare's nutrition related activities and make amendments to the implementation of the activities as suggested by the target groups.
8 Prepare and make timely submissions to the Project Coordinator, of the necessary list of inputs/ supplies required by your section,
9 Interact with all Africare's partners, help in initiation of partnerships with organizations in nutrition activities.
10 Prepare monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and other progress reports as well as monthly work plans for your section.
11 Carry-out any other duties responsibilities as may be assigned to you by the Project Co-coordinator.

Qualifications and Experience:
• Degree in Human Nutrition and dietetics, Public -Health, Nursing, Home Economics or Environmental Hygiene Education;
• Experience in hygiene and sanitation education, HIV/AID, home based care and participatory rural appraisal;
• Knowledge of best practice in nutrition and hygiene
• At least a 6-month working experience in a managerial position preferably in private sector or NGOs
• Experience in dealing and performing at strategic level
• Computer literate
• Will and talent to provide excellent management and people focus
• A highly structured and driven approach to work highly results oriented with a proven track record Competencies:

• Ability to influence key stakeholders
• Must be creative and innovative
• Being able to deliver results and meet expectations Ability to decide and initiate action
