Islamic Relief: Finance Manager

Job Title: Finance Manager Kenya
Reporting to:
Country Director
Contract: One year fixed term
Grade/Salary: EG5 (Step 1), £20,024 p.a.
Base Location: Kenya (60%) & Nairobi (40%)

Division/ Purpose:

International Programme Department is to contribute to the process of global poverty alleviation, and strengthen IR global work through the provision of technical support in cooperation with regional desks and support units

Department / Purpose:

Africa Region is to contribute to the poverty alleviation in Africa and to strengthen IR offices in Africa through the provision of technical and managerial support

Key Objectives

  • To ensure the development of an efficient, clear and transparent Finance Department in Kenya,
  • Responsible for the creation, planning, coordination, day to day financial management, reporting and development of the IR Kenya finance related operation.

Key Roles/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development of the finance department.
  • Develop systems and controls to ensure the efficiency, integrity and transparency of Islamic Relief Kenya operations
  • Ensure that all records are maintained and are available to authorized persons
  • Supervise the welfare and professional development of the finance staff in line with their responsibilities
  • Support other departments in relation to financial information and project reporting.
  • To communicate with external auditors, government departments, banks as well as regularly undertaking internal financial audits.
  • To prepare project related financial reports for HQ and donors
  • To provide finance related training to staff outside the finance department when required.
  • To ensure IR Kenya accounts are well managed and adequate funds maintained
  • To liaise with the Africa Desk and Finance Department based in HQ
  • To keep the Country Director (CD) informed, through regular correspondence or meetings of significant ongoing activities and other important issues.
  • Be responsible for maintaining a smooth and efficient system which has the ability to produce a broad range of reports especially in the following areas:
  • Balance sheets
  • Cash flow statements
  • Income and expenditure
  • Trial Balance
  • Chart of accounts
  • Individual Project Budget versus actual reports
  • Purchase ledger reports
  • Bank reconciliation
  • Regularly updated financial reports for all departments
  • Asset Management
  • Budgets
  • Undertake any other related task as assigned by the CD.

Essential

Experience:

  • Proven years of finance related experience in an NGO or a commercial environment
  • Experience of handling donor projects, e.g. ECHO

Skills

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and other accounting packages (knowledge of Quickbooks will be desirable)
