Abt Associates, Inc. (Abt): Project Accountant

Uganda Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) Project is a three year United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project designed to attain the President's Malaria Initiative (PMI) Uganda targets in IRS. The program is carried out with support of the Uganda National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) covering six priority districts: Apac, Amuru, Gulu, Oyam, Pader and Kitgum.

Abt Associates, Inc. (Abt), the prime contractor of this program, seeks to recruit suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the following positions.

Project Accountant

Role Definition:
To plan, manage, and implement all aspects of the project accounting system and maintain an accounting database. In addition, he/she is responsible for collecting and recording all information that will facilitate information exchange and dissemination to the Abt Associates Head Office.

Responsibilities:
• Records expenditures, income, and any other related transactions, in the books of accounts (Quicken).
• Prepares payment vouchers and corresponding checks,
• Prepares payroll and other regular payments with due consideration, to deductions (for advances, loans, taxes, etc).
• Prepares monthly bank reconciliations.
• Conducts petty cash audits and organizes for replenishment. Ensures that the books of accounts are up to date at all times, orderly, well kept, and readily available for reference and audit, when required procedures and policies.
• Prepares monthly cash requests, and promptly advises action required to cover estimated costs,
• Liaise with Abt Associates, International Accounting Department on all aspects of financial procedures and any issues that may arise.
• Ensures that government taxes are paid on time using the e-tax system.
• Provides direct supervision and on job training to the Finance
Assistant

Qualifications and competencies:
• Bachelors Degree in Business, Accounting, or other relevant f field is desired.
• At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in program accounting and bookkeeping,
• USA1D experience and knowledge of FARs and AIDARs is highly desirable.
• A self-starter that is able to perform under pressure is preferred,
• English language proficiency is required.
