Resolution Health East Africa: Accountant

Our Tanzania subsidiary is looking to recruit an Accountant whose role purpose will be the maintenance of accounting procedures, systems and processes to ensure reliable and timely information to Senior Management for decision making.

Key Responsibilities Areas include:

1. Treasury Management

* Responsible for day to day treasury cash management including preparation of a cash update for the country manager;
* Reconciliation of all cashbook to bank statements;
* Review all receipts and disbursements, ascertaining correct account distribution and ensuring all support documentation is accurate and in order;

2. Taxes and Staff Payroll

* Ensure accurate and timely processing and payment of commissions & payroll ;
* Ensure payment of statutory payments by due date;
* Ensure correct balances at all times on payroll, commission and risk premium related accounts on the general ledger;

3. Commissions Payroll

* Ensure deductions from commissions & payroll are made as per agreement;

4. Debtor Management

* Reconciliation of Debtors accounts with the objective resolving disputes and collecting outstanding debt;

5. Other Key Deliverables

* Establish and maintain proper relations with various stakeholders within and outside the company including banks, suppliers, debtors, MSPs;
* Ensure maintenance of effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements;
* Ensure compliance with all financial and contract reporting requirements for licensing, Audit and regulatory agencies;

6. Reporting

* Preparation of the various reports including: Management Reports, Cash projection, Aged Debtors Report, Aged Suppliers Report;
* In conjunction with the country manager prepare the annual company budget;
* Ensure that all assets are properly recorded in the asset register and insured;
* Preparation for the annual audit;
* Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time;

Role competencies/skills:

* Academic: 1st degree: commerce or business
* Professional qualifications: CPA (K) or equivalent.
* Minimum 2 years experience in similar position in a medium to large commercial environment.
* Strong leadership skills with the ability to remain focused under pressure circumstances.
* Experience in the use of accounting soft-wares.
* High proficiency in the use of Excel and Word
* Experience in an audit firm an added advantage.
* Good oral and written communication skills

Aga Khan Foundation: Jobs and Vacancies

The Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, non-denominational, development agency promoting creative and effective solutions to problems that impede social and economic development.

AKF (East Africa) has initiated a multi-input area development programme – the Coastal Rural Support Programme, Tanzania (CRSP, T) – in southern Tanzania.

The Programme’s overall goal is to improve the livelihoods of rural communities in Mtwara and Lindi Regions.
The Foundation invites applications from suitable, qualified & experienced persons to fill the following vacant positions:

1. Project Irrigation Engineer

Overall Objective:

The Irrigation Engineer will provide support to the activities of the food security and income components, field team and farming communities towards enhancing water productivity in rain-fed lowland rice production systems through improved community capacity for rainwater harvesting, retention, distribution and use in rice farmers’ fields.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and coordination

* Plan with senior project management, district government officials and community leaders on CRSPT interventions in small scale, low cost water management projects aimed at improving water availability for rice cultivation.
* Lead the negotiations and deliberation with relevant stakeholders towards improving water availability for agriculture.

Mobilisation and capacity building

* Mobilise communities to improve lowland development and water management systems.
* Facilitate the formation and training of Community Water Management Committees.
* Facilitate capacity building for local artisans and community resource persons on the fabrication and use of simple water diversion, lifting, filtration, and distribution equipments in cropping environment.

Supervision of construction implementation

* Supervise the implementation of activities relating to civil engineering works, environmental impact assessment and social innovations.
* Provide technical expertise during design, implementation of construction work, monitoring and evaluation of water harvesting facilities.

Qualifications and other Requirements:

* Minimum 5 years of active working experience in same or related discipline.
* University degree in either civil or irrigation engineering or other relevant field (advanced degree at M.Sc level with at least 5 years post graduate experience is preferred)
* Candidate with demonstrable practical experience with rain-fed inland valley lowlands rice production systems particularly on water harvesting, river diversion, weir construction and water distribution is preferred.

2. Project Action Research Scientist

Overall Objective:

The Action Research Scientist will coordinate research activities of Coastal Rural Support Programme, Tanzania (CRSPT) to provide greater understanding of the links between climate change, agricultural productivity and household nutrition in Lindi and Mtwara region of Tanzania.

She/he will supervise a “challenge fund” and activities that support action research proposals that address impacts of climate change on household crop production, incomes and child nutrition outcomes.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and coordination:

* Plan and lead all interventions on action research areas.
* Plan the timeframes and sequences of action research areas and topics in ways that ensure coherence and synergy in results, while being cost effective.
* Supervise the field implementation of all activities to ensure achievement of defined objectives for the various action research areas.
* Coordinate the various stages from conception, design, implementation and reporting of action research projects.

Facilitation of a virtual learning platform

* Summarise discussion and feedbacks from advisory team and implement possible suggestions.
* Monitor progress and evaluate quality and reporting of action research by contracted parties with the assistance of the advisory team.
* Facilitate cross program-learning activities and initiate mechanisms that facilitate feedback from action research into the on-going implementation of CRSPT programme activities.

Resource mobilisation and capacity building

* Mobilise relevant resources needed for the successful implementation of action research projects.
* Mobilise stakeholders to participate in the reflexive research and action cycles at local, regional and national levels.
* Constitute and coordinate a virtual committee of advisors to guide project implementation.

Qualifications and other Requirements:

* Minimum of 5 years relevant working experience in the field of rural development and applied research.
* A postgraduate degree (minimum at Masters level) either in sociology, natural resource or agricultural economics, development studies, agro-ecology, environmental studies or other relevant area of study.

3. Agriculture Market Development Manager

Overall Objective:

The Agriculture Market Development Manager will work closely with the Food Security Manager. She/he will implement the market development strategy and drive the market development activities for rice and sesame sub sectors through collaboration and establishing networks with producer groups.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Producer marketing groups

* Promote relevant and appropriate Market development strategies and plans for managing sesame and rice production and marketing as a business.
* Lead in the development or formation of producer marketing groups.
* Lead exposure visits by farmers and cooperatives to observe and replicate good practices in rice & sesame marketing.
* Develop district-level associations, and linkages with producer marketing groups.

Market Access and information

* Support producer marketing groups to improve quality and reach new market opportunities.
* Develop channels for regular market information to reach farmers and their associations.

Capacity Building

* Develop and deliver training materials for producer marketing groups to support their growth and development.
* To facilitate preparation and implementation of business and marketing plans for producer organisations.
* Provide logistical support for training and identification of training needs for producer groups on post harvest handling, bulk buying, marketing and other needed group activities.

Qualifications and other Requirements:

* Minimum 8 years work experience with relevance in agricultural produce marketing.
* Experience with private sector and hands on market linkages will be an added advantage.
* University Degree in Agricultural Economics or relevant area of study with proven records of achievement.

NMB is now looking for a Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to drive HR issues and the HR team to its full potential.The main objective for the CHRO will be to facilitate alignment of NMB’s organization, people and culture to its strategic business plan, through the provision of services in all aspects of human resources management.

The HR Department develops initiatives and provides strategic support to the Board of Directors and NMB Management with regard to human resource policies. It supports line management in all departments, performs centralized HR service tasks, and ensures NMB-wide application of operational human resources activities.

The CHRO is member of the executive management team and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive the Human Resources team across the country to achieve business objectives.
  • Responsible for developing all Human Resources policies, procedures and processes.
  • Manage and supervise all issues and activities related to recruitment, compensation and benefits, performance management and training.
  • Responsible for periodical reporting and information supply towards the Board HR & Remuneration Committee.
  • Operate within the agreed departmental budget.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with The Chairman and members of the board, executive and senior management, zone managers and branch managers.
  • Operate and drive the HR department according to NMB board decisions, the NMB strategic business plan, Labour Laws and HR policy.
  • Responsible for representing NMB in all HR issues, internally as well as externally.
  • Playing an active role as a member of the executive management team is expected.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University (MA)- or graduate level in social science subjects (preferably HRM) with not less than 5 years experience in a reputable institution in a senior management position.
  • Demonstrate a high level of capacity to work independently and perform work based on broad interpretation of policies and procedures enabling the implementation of the business objectives for NMB.
  • The successful candidate should be capable to develop and implement programs for identifying and describing the human resource pool that will be available to the organization.
  • Possess a strong business acumen and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the business, its strategy, its skills requirements and its resources.
  • Knowledge of local employment legislations, good knowledge of Human resources best practices in compensation and benefits as well as performance management.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and training skills are essential.
  • A proven ability to operate at a strategic level and the capability to think strategically and have the ability to practically execute the strategic direction of NMB.

We are a group of companies headquartered in Kampala but with operations in various industry sectors the East African region.

We have recently made a significant investment in Dar es Salaam Tanzania where we are venturing into the highly lucrative soft drinks market through fresh fruit juices, that is only enhanced by the East Africa Community common market.

General Manager

We are looking for a General Manager to take charge of this Tanzania based operation. Reporting to a Board of Directors, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the business strategy for this operation. The highly competitive nature of this business will call for operational efficiency and you will be responsible for overall profitability. Managing the performance of your team and the company resources will also be your responsibility.

Requirements: We want to discuss this position with food production experts (graduate level or above) with at least 10 years experience in the food processing industry; experience in fresh fruit juice processing in a modern/automated environment would be a definite advantage. Experience of working in Tanzania and of working in a start-up operation is highly desirable. Proven leadership and people management skills are essential as are business building skills and budgeting and budgetary control.

Sales & Marketing Manager

This position gives you a clean slate on which to draw a sales and marketing strategy for the East African region. Your core deliverables will be brand awareness levels, increased volumes and ultimately, increased sales. We will be expecting you to develop a distribution model that optimizes route to market and to develop and implement an appropriate marketing and communication strategy that builds the company and the brands profiles.

Requirements: We are looking for graduates of business with a marketing and or sales professional qualification. You will also have five years experience in the FMCG sector; experience in the highly competitive soft drinks industry and exposure to the East African market is highly desirable. You will also have managed a team of sales and marketing staff for at least two years with proven positive results. We will be interested to see how your strategies in the past have paid off, so please include your achievements in your application.

Mechanical Engineer

You will have full responsibility for the maintenance of two plants; one tetrapak line and a glass and PET bottles line. Taking over from the installation engineers, we will be expecting you to develop and implement an appropriate maintenance plan in close liaison with the production unit, that ensures machine availability within the uptime targets. Other core deliverables will include capacity maximization, continuous improvement and energy management.

Requirements: A degree in mechanical engineering and training or experience of PLC is a primary requirement. Experience of working in food processing, preferably soft drinks manufacturing in an automated environment is critical. Understanding of international quality management systems such as ISO and HACCP is essential. We will also be looking for proven people management experience and budgeting and budgetary control experience.

Programme Manager – Strengthening Environmental Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Reporting to the Regional Representative, WWF Eastern Southern & Africa Programme (WWF-ESARPO), the Programme Manager has overall responsibility for high quality and timely delivery on all expected outcomes of the Tanzania Civil Society Programme, and thus contributing to the fulfillment of the programme’s goal and purpose.

Ensures careful preparation of budgets and that the timing and cost of planned work is accurately reflected while taking relevant donor requirements into consideration.

The purpose of the CSOs is that they effectively participate in and influence decision making and governance for more sustainable and equitable management of natural resources, especially fisheries, forestry, and wildlife resources.

Key Requirements are:

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in natural resource management, environment, rural development, social sciences or sociology, or related field. Masters’ degree in similar fields will be a distinct advantage;
  • 7 years work experience with both local and international NGOs working in environment/conservation and development work, 3 years of programme management experience in the context of organisational development and/or advocacy/policy work; 2 years experience of working in or supporting partnership with other CSO;
  • Good understanding of issues of sustainable conservation management;
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, ability to work independently, initiate and fulfill projects and to motivate and engage staff and partners;
  • Personal desire and engagement for, as well as demonstrable experience in, policy analysis and advocacy work;
  • Experience of budgeting, and familiarity with sound budgetary and financial management procedures;

The African Wildlife Foundation (AWF), an international conservation organization is seeking a qualified, talented and motivated Administrative Assistant.

The successful candidate will be an integral member of AWF’s Administration team, executing logistics and managing the Arusha office in the AWF’s Maasai Steppe Heartland.

This position reports to the Senior Finance and Administration Officer and will be based in Arusha Tanzania.

The successful candidate would:

  • Provide administrative support to the heartland by ensuring continued implementation of AWF administrative policies and procedures.
  • Organize logistics, such as travel arrangements, workshops and seminars.
  • Manage Heartland vehicle fleet, and drivers.
  • Manage and negotiate Heartland procurements, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain vendor records, ensure proper delivery of goods, and negotiate favorable terms and conditions for the Heartland.
  • Prepare and present monthly report on administrative issues to Senior Finance and Administration Officer.
  • Serve as office receptionist.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Office Administration or Diploma in Business Administration or related field
  • At least 3-5 years experience in NGO sector
  • Demonstrated interest and understanding of key administrative functions ranging from insurance management, tenancy agreements, procurement and cross border logistics

Desert Locust Control Organization: Director

Established by International convention signed by the Governments of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and registered with the United Nations

Headquarters: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Applications are invited for the post of Director of the Desert Locust Control Organization for Eastern Africa.

Applicants must be nationals of the contracting States of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

The successful candidate shall be offered a three-year contract, renewable for a second term of three (3) years.

Functions:

The Director shall be the Principal Executive-Officer of the Desert Locust Control Organization for Eastern Africa and under the Council, responsible for the overall policy direction and operations of the Organization. The duties of the Director shall be those necessary to ensure the discharge of the main functions of the Organization, which include:

  • Aerial Surveys and Control of Mandated Migrant Pests [Locusts, Grain eating birds (Quelea), Armyworm] and a vector (Tsetse fly) in Eastern Africa
  • Operational Research Programmes and activities which are confined to Migrant Pest Control, Pesticide use and safety in the Region
  • Coordination of the information flow and forecasting upsurges of the Migrant Pests
  • Staff Development.

The Director shall also be responsible for:

  • The transmission by means of periodic reports to Contracting States, to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and to any other official body considered appropriate by the Council, of full information on the nature of the locust infestations and other mandated pests (Quelea birds, Armyworm and Tsetse Fly), the progress of research and the operation of control measures within the Region;
  • The maintenance of full cooperation with other Organizations concerned with the general directives of the Council;
  • The collection of the contributions of Contracting States;
  • The maintenance of the accounts of the Organization.

Qualifications:

  • A Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Agriculture or its equivalent with postgraduate training in Business Administration/Management and experience of not less than 10 years working in a senior level Management in a related discipline.
  • Proven ability to work in harmony with people of different national and cultural backgrounds is highly desirable.

Language: Fluent in English, Knowledge of French is an advantage

Salary: DLCO-EA Scale R-1, i.e. US$ 26,530.00 to US$ 30,940.00 per annum. Entry point negotiable.

Benefits: The post carries house allowance or housing, medical, terminal indemnity and other benefits according to the Organization’s Service Regulations as well as the privileges and immunities accorded to it as an international Organization.
