National Microfinance Bank Plc: Chief Human Resources Officer

National Microfinance Bank Plc. (NMB) is the largest bank in Tanzania, both when ranked by customer base and branch network. With 136 branches NMB is located in more than 80% of Tanzania’s districts. This broad branch network distinguishes NMB from other financial institutions in Tanzania. NMB is committed to sustaining and enhancing the branch network in order to provide access to financial services to citizens in all areas of Tanzania, with special focus on rural areas.

NMB is now looking for a Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) to drive HR issues and the HR team to its full potential.The main objective for the CHRO will be to facilitate alignment of NMB’s organization, people and culture to its strategic business plan, through the provision of services in all aspects of human resources management.

The HR Department develops initiatives and provides strategic support to the Board of Directors and NMB Management with regard to human resource policies. It supports line management in all departments, performs centralized HR service tasks, and ensures NMB-wide application of operational human resources activities.

The CHRO is member of the executive management team and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and drive the Human Resources team across the country to achieve business objectives.
  • Responsible for developing all Human Resources policies, procedures and processes.
  • Manage and supervise all issues and activities related to recruitment, compensation and benefits, performance management and training.
  • Responsible for periodical reporting and information supply towards the Board HR & Remuneration Committee.
  • Operate within the agreed departmental budget.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with The Chairman and members of the board, executive and senior management, zone managers and branch managers.
  • Operate and drive the HR department according to NMB board decisions, the NMB strategic business plan, Labour Laws and HR policy.
  • Responsible for representing NMB in all HR issues, internally as well as externally.
  • Playing an active role as a member of the executive management team is expected.

Qualifications & Experience

  • University (MA)- or graduate level in social science subjects (preferably HRM) with not less than 5 years experience in a reputable institution in a senior management position.
  • Demonstrate a high level of capacity to work independently and perform work based on broad interpretation of policies and procedures enabling the implementation of the business objectives for NMB.
  • The successful candidate should be capable to develop and implement programs for identifying and describing the human resource pool that will be available to the organization.
  • Possess a strong business acumen and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the business, its strategy, its skills requirements and its resources.
  • Knowledge of local employment legislations, good knowledge of Human resources best practices in compensation and benefits as well as performance management.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and training skills are essential.
  • A proven ability to operate at a strategic level and the capability to think strategically and have the ability to practically execute the strategic direction of NMB.
