Epicenter is a non Governmental organization created by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) in 1987. It has established close collaboration with the Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) and set up a full-time experienced research team to conduct high standard clinical research, according to Good Clinical Practice standards. Epicentre in Mbarara is conducting clinical tuberculosis) with a special focus on vulnerable populations (e.g., children).
Job Title: Data Manager
Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Research Base and Head of Data Management unit
Main Responsibility:
The major role of the data manager is to ensure that data collected during Epicentre clinical studies is of high quality standard (consistent, complete and accurate) and that data management system upholds confidentiality according to guidelines of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Responsibilities (not exhaustive):
* Support any study by providing data management expertise
* Contribute to development of the study-sped fie Case Report Forms (CRFs).
* Design/create databases and data entry templates
* Assist in standardizing data management procedures by developing further internal guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensure the compliance to the existent SOPs.
* Ensure timely data entry and ensure the validation of double data entry management plan of each study, including the data validation plan, and ensure verification of errors and data cleaning.
* Under request, produce reports on status of data collection, data entry and data clarification forms generated through data cleaning.
* In strict respect of confidentiality and good clinical practice (GCP), supervise the management and storage of CRF and other study document (including
• Ensure that GCP requirements, internal guidelines and SOPs are implemented in data management activities.
Skills and Competencies
General computer skills:
Experience in using relational databases such as relational databases (mySQL.), in SQL and in database modeling. Working knowledge of software programs in particular,
Epidata, STATA.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Good organizational and problem solving skills with attention to details
Ability to work with autonomy
Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
Ability to work in respect of internal guidelines, GCP,
Standard Operating Procedures and study protocols Strong interest in clinical research
Qualifications:
A degree in data management or information technology from a recognized institution with at least one year of experience in data management.
Work conditions:
* Status and conditions: employed by Epicentre, salary based on Epicentre salary scale, 13th month salary and medical coverage
* Duration: 6 months contract renewable
* Starting date:August 2010
