Nkumba University: Financial Accountant

Position: Financial Accountant

Reports to: Bursar through Deputy Bursar
a) Major purpose of job:
i) Day to day supervision of Accounts Department staff
ii)Maintenance of the integrity of the financial accounting system.
iii) Timely production of financial reports in according with the University Charter, Legal requirements and settlement dates.

b) Detailed job description
i) Continuous checking of the book keeping and accounts postings to the general ledger to ensure accuracy and timeliness
ii) In liaison with the Deputy Bursar, ensure the preparation of the University's financial reports.
iii) Liaison with external and internal auditors for the provision of accounting information.
iv) Ensure that all accounting reports are adequately supported by relevant documentation.
v) Responsibility for ensuring that all accounting documents are adequately secured and logically stored.
vi) Ensure that all financial reports generated from the general ledger for audit and internal purposes are produced in a timely manner and are accurate.
vii) Ensure that proper internal controls are in place.
viii) Supervision of the maintenance of the asset registers to ensure that it is fully reconciled with the general ledger.
x) Periodic reconciliation of the asset register with the physical inventory count of the assets.
xi) Ad hoc investigations and assignments as requested by Deputy Bursar and Bursar from time to time.

i) Supervisory skills
ii) Organisational skills
iii) Good communicator both oral and written
iv) Presentation skills
v) Computer literate

d) Qualifications and experience:
Applicants should have the following:
i) A good first degree in one of the following or related discipline: Commerce, Accounting, Business Administration. ii) Full or part Professional qualifications in accounting e.g. ACCA, CIMA, CPA or its equivalent will be an added advantage. iii) 2-3 years relevant working experience

e) Age Bracket:
Between 30 and 40 years
g) Tenure:
Four year contract renewable upon satisfactory performance
