Kenya School of Law: Jobs and Vacancies in Kenya

The Kenya School of Law is a Postgraduate Training Institution run under the auspices of the Council of Legal Education Act. Cap. 16A of the Laws of Kenya

The core mandate of the Council of Legal Education is inter alia to train for legal professional development and in particular to train lawyers “for entry into the legal profession as Advocates of the High Court of Kenya.

For over 40 years the School has discharged this mandate under the leadership of the office.of the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice National Cohesion and Constitutional Affairs. From 2006, however, the School became a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency (SAGA) with an expanded mandate and reviewed terms of service for its staff.

The core functions of School as currently constituted includes provision of the following services:

* Advocates Training and Paralegal Studies
* Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Legal Research

In order to effectively meet these expanded functions the School wishes to recruit full time high calibre personnel who will join the existing strong team of staff to help it realize its vision of being the preferred centre of excellence in legal education and training in this Eastern Africa region and beyond.

We are looking for independent, strategic actors who are in good health are ICT literate, customer oriented, and can lead change.

Specifically we seek to recruit:-

1. Assistant Director

Continuing Professional Development Projects & Research

Ref: CLE/KSL/HR01/10 KSL 3 1 Position

Overall purpose of the job: Reporting to the Deputy Director the incumbent will provide leadership in Continuing Professional Development, projects and research.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

* Possess an LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have at least 12 years working experience 5 of which should be as a Lecturer/Trainer in an academic institution;
* Have the ability to coordinate and conduct legal training programmes;
* Have ability to supervise staff;
* Have excellent planning and organizational skills;
* Have excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;
* Have good customer care and public relations skills;
* Possess good interpersonal relations skills and be a team player
* Have the ability to work under minimal supervision.

2. Projects Coordinator

Ref: CLE/KSL/HR02/10KSL 4

1 Position

Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Assistant Director; Continuing Professional Development, Projects, and Research, (CPD P & R), the incumbent will assist in the identification, planning, and coordination of viable income generating projects and consultancies for the School.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have at least 10 years working experience 5 of which should be as a lecturer/trainer in an academic institution or as a consultant.
* Experience in project work or training in project management skills will be an added advantage;
* Have the ability to coordinate and conduct short-term legal training programmes;
* Have excellent planning and organizational skills;
* Have excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;
* Have good customer care and public relations skills;
* Possess good interpersonal relations skills and be a team player;
* Have the ability to work under minimal supervision.

3. Principal Lecturer (CPD P &R)

Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Research, (CPD P & R), the incumbent will assist in identification, planning and coordination of specific training programmes, projects or research.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of 10 years, 5 of which should be in an
* academic institution in a teaching capacity. Experience in consultancy or project work will be an added advantage;
* Have the ability to coordinate and conduct short-term legal training programmes;
* Have excellent planning and organizational skills;
* Have excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;
* Have good customer care and public relations skills;
* Possess good interpersonal relations skills and be a team player;
* Have the ability to work under minimal supervision.

4. Senior Lecturer (CPD P &R)

1 Position

Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Continuing Professional Development, Projects and Research, (CPD P & R), the incumbent will teach short training courses and carry out research. The incumbent will also assist in the planning and coordination of specific programmes or projects within the sub-directorate.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of years 5 of which 3 should as an academic in a legal training institution or as a consultant. Qualifications / experience in consultancy/ project work will be an added advantage;
* Have the ability to coordinate and conduct short-term legal training programmes;
* Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
* Have excellent planning and organizational skills;
* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;

5. Senior Lecturer (ATP & PS)

2 Positions

Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Advocates’ Training Programme and Paralegal Studies, (ATP & PS), the incumbent will provide teaching, research, and assist in planning and coordination of academic programmes in the School.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a LLM degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of 5 years, 3 of which should be in an academic institution in a teaching capacity.
* Have the ability to conduct legal training at a practical level;
* Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;

6. Lecturer (ATP & PS)

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Advocates’ Training Programme and Paralegal Studies, (ATP & PS), the incumbent will provide teaching and research services.

The successful candidate will:

* Possess an LLB degree or equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have served for a minimum of 5 years as an academic in a legal training or educational institution or as a practicing advocate;
* Have the ability to conduct legal training at a practical level;

7. Marketing & PR Manager

Ref: CLE/KSL/HR08/10KSL 5

1 Position

Overall purpose of the job:

Reporting to the Director/CEO the incumbent will develop and implement marketing plans and strategies that will result in maximization of sales of Kenya School of Law services.

He/She will also develop and implement public relations plans and strategies that facilitate delivery of accurate and timely information to the School’s stake holders.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a masters degree in marketing and/or public relations or equivalent;
* Have at least 5 years relevant working experience in a busy organization;
* Have excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
* Have ability to manage and coordinate publicity and other social events;
* Have ability to brand and market School programmes and facilities;

8. Senior Accountant

1 Position

Overall purpose of the job:

To assist the Finance Manager in giving strategic direction to the finance function of the School by way of introducing new financial procedures while strengthening existing ones. The incumbent will also assist in giving accurate periodic budgets and reports that reflect the true financial position of the School.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a relevant masters degree and a holder of CPA (K);
* Have served for a minimum of 5 years, 3 of which should be in a management position;
* Have excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;
* Have excellent planning and organizational skills;
* Have good customer care and public relations skills;
* Have good interpersonal skills;

9. Internal Audit Assistant

Overall purpose of the Job:

Reporting to the Internal Auditor the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the audit function in ensuring that management policies and procedures are adhered to and that internal controls are effective.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a bachelor’s degree in finance or audit equivalent from a recognized university;
* Have at least 3 years relevant working experience in finance or audit;
* Have excellent communication skills with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;
* Have excellent planning and organizational skills;
* Have good customer care and public relations skills;
* Have good interpersonal skills;

10. General Staff

Ref: CLE/KSL/HR10/10KSL (1 Position)

Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the respective Section Head the incumbent will assist with general office work within the department he/she is deployed in.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

* Possess a KCSE Certificate;
* Possess any other recognised certificate;
* Some working experience in a human resource or administration environment will be desirable;
* Possess good communication skills;
* Have good Information Communication Technology skills;
* Have good customer care and public relations skills;
* Possess good interpersonal relations skills and be a team player;
* Have the ability to work under minimal supervision
