The Kenya Institute of Administration is seeking to recruit lecturers, Chief Librarian and Company Secretary cum Law lecturer in the vacant positions in the Institute.

1. Associate Professors: Public Administration, Public Policy and Management

Job Purpose

To enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality Training, Research and Consultancy Services aimed at improving public service performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes in Public Administration, Public Policy and Management.
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivery such as training manuals, course packages, and audio visual aids among others.
  • Initiate and co-ordinate, collaborative research and consultancy in Public Administration, Public Policy and Management.
  • Provide thought leadership for product and Service Innovations
  • Provide the necessary liaison between the Institute and the clients.
  • Carry out any other assignment as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • PhD degree in Public Administration Management, Business Education or related field
  • 8 years of teaching experience in the University or Management Development Institute.
  • Must have published at least four (4) articles in referred journals/a book or book chapters in the last four (4) years.
  • Management and Leadership experience in Public Service.
  • Must have supervised research projects/Thesis for graduate students
  • Evidence of Community Service.
  • Excellent team player and communication skills.

  • Ability to handle duties concurrently in a complex rapidly changing environment.


2. Principal Lecturer Research & Consultancy

Job Purpose

To enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality Training, Research and Consultancy Services aimed at improving public service performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide leadership in the delivery of Research and Consultancy services.
  • Design and coordinate modules in Research & Consultancy Services.
  • Deliver lectures in Research & Consultancy services or related fields.
  • Provide advisory services on issues related to research & Consultancy.
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivered such as training manuals, course notes, and audio visual aids among others.
  • Initiate and co-ordinate, collaborative research and consultancy.
  • Provide the necessary liaison between the Institute and the clients.
  • Carry out any other assignment as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree in business administration or relevant field.
  • PhD qualification is an added advantage.
  • At least 5-7 years experience in consultancy and research.
  • Possession of training of trainers’ certificate.
  • Excellent inter personal and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Knowledge of national development priorities, functions and practices of government.

3. Principal Lecturer: Human Resources/Strategic Management

Job Purpose

To enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality Training, Research and Consultancy Services aimed at improving public service performance.

  • To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes in Human Resources and Strategic Management.
  • Design, deliver and coordinate modules in Human Resources and Strategic Planning and Management.
  • Provide advisory services on issues related to Human Resources & management.
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivery such as training manuals, course notes, and audio visual aids among others.
  • Initiate and co-ordinate, collaborative research and consultancy in Human Resource and strategic planning.
  • Provide the necessary liaison between the Institute and clients.
  • Carry out any other assignment as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Masters degree in business administration or relevant field.

4. Principal Lecturer: Economics/Policy Analysis

Job Purpose

To enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality Training, Research and Consultancy Services aimed at improving public service performance.

  • To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes in Economics and Policy Analysis.
  • Design, deliver and coordinate modules in Economics and Policy analysis.
  • Provide advisory services on issues related to Economics and Policy Analysis.
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivery such as training manuals, course notes, and audio visual aids among others.
  • Initiate and co-ordinate, collaborative research and consultancy in Economics and Policy Analysis.
  • Provide the necessary liaison between the Institute and clients.
  • Carry out any other assignment as may be assigned from time to time.

5. Principal Lecturer Law & Company Secretarial Duties

Job Purpose

Enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality Training in law and related subjects. To efficiently carry out the functions of the Company Secretary of the Institute.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes in Law.
  • Design, deliver and coordinate modules in Law.
  • Provide advisory services on issues related to Law
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivery such as training manuals, course notes, and audio visual aids among others.
  • Initiate and co-ordinate, collaborative research and consultancy in Law.
  • Provide the necessary liaison between the Institute and clients.
  • Carry out any other assignment as may be assigned from time to time.

Company Secretarial Duties

  • Facilitating the smooth operation of the Institute’s Board Meetings.
  • Organizing board and board committees meetings, formulating meeting agendas with the chief executive and advising management on content and organization of memoranda or presentations for the meeting.
  • Collecting, organizing and distributing such information, documents or other papers required for the meeting; ensuring that all meetings are minuted and that the minute books are maintained.
  • Ensuring that board committees are properly constituted and provided with clear terms of reference.
  • Handling all litigation cases affecting the Institute
  • Co-coordinating the publication and distribution of the company’s annual report and accounts and interim statements, in consultation with the company’s internal and external advisers, in particular, when preparing the directors’ report.
  • Protecting the Institute’s interests by ensuring the effectiveness of all documentation; due diligence to disclosures of information and correct authority is in place to allow timely execution of documentation.
  • To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes in law.
  • Provide advisory services on issues related to law and its practices.
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivery such as training manuals, course notes, and audio visual aids among others.
  • Provide the necessary liaison between the Institute and its clients.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree in Law or relevant field.
  • Diploma Kenya School of Law.
  • Attainment of Certified Public Secretary of Kenya.
  • At least 4-5 years experience in carrying out the function of Company Secretary.
  • Excellent inter personal and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • In depth knowledge of and insight into national development priorities, and functions and practices of government.

6. Senior Lecturer Public Administration & Policy Analysis

Job Purpose

To enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality Training, Research and Consultancy Services aimed at improving public service performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To Provide leadership in teaching, public administration, policy analysis and related consultancy.
  • Design and coordinate modules in research & policy analysis, Public administration and Management.
  • Provide advisory services on issues related to research & policy analysis.
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivered such as training manuals, course notes, and audio visual aids among others.
  • Initiate and co-ordinate collaborative research and consultancy.
  • Provide the necessary liaison between the Institute and the clients.

Qualifications and experience

  • Masters degree in Public Administration and policy analysis or equivalent.
  • At least three years experience in delivering lectures at Public Universities or other Institutions of higher learning.
  • Knowledge of public administration and policy in Kenya.
  • Possession of training of trainers certificate.
  • Excellent inter personal and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Knowledge of national development priorities, functions and practices of government.

7. Senior Lecturer Communication: Marketing and Public Relations

Job Purpose

To enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality training in the area of communication, marketing and public relations aimed at improving public service performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes of study at various levels.
  • To review course content and materials regularly.
  • To develop course contents and delivery in line with quality standards of the institute.
  • To set and mark examinations and provide accurate feedback.
  • Prepare training materials for courses delivered such as training manuals, course notes, audio visual aids etc.
  • Initiate collaborative research and consultancy assignments.
  • Carry out any other assignment as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and experience

  • Masters degree in Communication.
  • A degree in marketing and Public relations will be added advantage.
  • At least three years experience in training.
  • Possession of training of trainers certificate.
  • Excellent inter personal and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player.

8. Senior Lecturer Communication: Speech, Report Writing and Editing

Job Purpose

To enhance the Institute’s capacity to carry out quality training in Communication, speech and report writing aimed at improving public service performance.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To design, develop and deliver a range of programmes in communication, speech and report writing.
  • To review course content and materials regularly.
  • To develop course contents and delivery in line with quality standards of the institute.

9. Principal Procurement Officer

Job Purpose

Leadership and Management of the procurement function of the Institute. This role will manage the full supply chain life cycle of procurement requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review, design and manage procurement functions strategically by focusing on value for money.
  • Design and implement best practice in procurement management.
  • Ensure compliance with Public Procurement Act and Disposal Act 2005.
  • Review, Develop and implement Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001:2008 for the procurement function.
  • Manage supplier relationship for mutual benefit of the Institute and the Suppliers.
  • Manage the relationship between the Institute and Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA).
  • Develop and implement effective stores management system.
  • Managing tender process as per regulations.
  • Being secretary to the procurement committee.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Must be a holder of an MBA/MSc (Procurement).
  • Must be a member of KISM.
  • Team spirit and enthusiasm, self starter and autonomous player.
  • At least 5 years progressive experience gained in large delivery focused procurement function.
  • Proficient in MS office applications.
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills are a must.

10. Chief Librarian/Learning Resource Center

Job Purpose

To efficiently carry out management and administration of the Library Services/Learning and Resource Center with the aim of ensuring full and efficient provision and utilization of these services and facilities.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates activities of library/resource center
  • Assists patrons in selection and location of books, audiovisual materials, and other materials.
  • Trains and directs workers in performance of such tasks as receiving, shelving, and locating materials.
  • Examines book reviews, publishers’ catalogs, and other information sources to recommend material acquisition.
  • Searches catalog files, biographical dictionaries, and indexes, and examine content of reference materials to assist patrons in locating and selecting materials.
  • Assemble and arrange materials for display.
  • Prepare replies to mail requests for information.
  • Any other job assigned from time to time.

Qualifications and experience

  • Masters degree in Library Studies and Information Sciences.
  • At least 5-7 years experience in managing a busy library.
  • Excellent inter personal and communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Knowledge of national development priorities, and functions and practices of government.

11. Senior Accountants

Job Purpose

Leadership and Management of the Accounts section.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with analyzing and preparing financial statements and supporting schedules according to monthly close schedule and report on variances.
  • Facilitate and complete monthly close procedures.
  • Analyze revenues, commissions and expenses to ensure they are recorded appropriately on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations.
  • Assist with preparing tax returns and corporate reporting requirements.
  • Assist with quarterly produce commission reports; analyzing and correcting discrepancies.
  • Collect debts from Institute clients.
  • Assist in documentation and monitoring of internal controls.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Commerce: Accounting option.
  • Strong understanding of accounting policies and procedures
  • CPA (K) graduate.
  • 5 years accounting/finance experience.
  • Ability to meet assigned deadlines.
  • Proficiency with email and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Team spirit and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
