Homa Hills AIDS Relief Project : Jobs and Vacancies in Kenya

1. Social Worker

Responsibilities of the Social Worker:

  • To promote at all times functional community involvement in implementation
  • Community education and mobilization
  • Facilitate client testing and enrollment
  • To identify, lead and supervise teams of CHWs
  • Evaluate other needs of the patients and assist using available resources of the ART clinic.
  • Facilitate capacity building programs for community health workers, patients and other community structures as appropriate.
  • To conduct routine home visits and monitor performance and well being of patients enrolled on ART to encourage and assess compliance
  • Assist the HIV care team particularly nurses in provision of Anti Retro vital Therapy by serving patients in the community and hospital setting
  • To ensure accurate reporting and patient data maintenance and integrity
  • Supervising , working with support groups and coordinating other support group initiatives in the community i.e. SILC
  • Maintain confidentiality of all activities to preserve dignity of all patients
  • Participate in the regular meetings and CMEs of the HIV/ART care team.
  • Carry out other duties deemed necessary by the social worker’s supervisor (Lead Community Nurse).

Working time: 40 hours per week, 5 days a week.

Minimum requirements:

  • Diploma in Social Work
  • Good interaction and communication skills
  • Willingness to interact with diverse members of the community especially patients infected with HIV/AIDS.
  • Basic counseling skills

2. Pharmaceutical Technologist

Responsibilities of the Pharmaceutical Technologist:

  • Ensure good store keeping for pharmacy drugs
  • Prepare and manage pharmacy inventory in conjunction with the ART project coordinator
  • Be part of the clinical eligibility committee to set and periodically evaluate annual department goals.
  • Develop, review and regularly update the standard operating procedures manual for administration and distribution of ARVs
  • Review with medical staff and update regularly the hospital drug formulary committee for the ART project
  • Give ART clinical team updates on the availability of drugs
  • Orientate new pharmacy staff members
  • Providing appropriate education and participate in counseling of patients taking ARVs in order to promote compliance with prescribed regimen.
  • Preparation of the monthly Pharmacy reports to CRS
  • Perform any reasonable work related duties as may relate as may be assigned by the project coordinator
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure pharmacy data integrity at all times
  • Participate in regular meetings, and CMEs of the HIV care team
  • Member of the Pharmacy, and CCC management team

Working time: 40 hours per week, 5 days a week.

Minimum requirements:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy from KMTC or equivalent
  • Computer skills in Windows, and Microsoft word
  • Good interaction and communication skills
  • Experience in ART program

3. Nurse Counselor

Responsibilities of the Nurse Counselor:

  • Assist with clinic based provision of ART, clinic care and coordinate follow up of patients on ART
  • Visit patients and affected families in their home setting to monitor for Anti retroviral (ART) adherence, drug side effects and opportunistic infections
  • Coordinate community follow up of patients initiated on ART by working with community nurse ,social worker and other cadre of HIV care team
  • Train and supervise CHWs and other health care professionals to assist in the provision of community and home based care to patients
  • Coordinate and participate in Treatment Preparation Seminars for patients beginning ART
  • Participate in community mobilization and education regarding HIV/AIDS, its causes ,prevention and therapy
  • Assist the lead community nurse in prioritization of patients for home visit
  • Cover when clinic nurse is on leave
  • Maintain confidentiality of all activities to preserve dignity of patients
  • Participate in the regular meetings and CMEs of the HIV/ART care team.
  • Carry out any other duties deemed necessary by the Lead nurse.

Working time: 40 hours per week, 5 days a week.

Minimum requirements:

  • KECHN/KRCHN
  • Good interaction and communication skills
  • Experience in ART program or community nursing
  • Desire to see effective care delivered to those suffering from HIV/AIDS.
  • Basic counseling skills
  • VCT training added advantage
