Communication for Change (C-Change): Behavior Change Communication Technical Officer

Communication for Change (C-Change) is USAID’s flagship program under the Academy for Educational Development to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of communication for behavior and social change as an integral part of development efforts in health, environment, and civil society.
The purpose of the project in Kenya is to strengthen social and behavior change communication (SBCC) in Family Planning/Reproductive Health FP/RH, Malaria and Male Circumcision programs in Kenya.

Position Summary: The Behavior Change Communication Technical Officer will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and reports to the Chief of Party – C-Change Program. This assignment is to provide technical expertise in SBCC in the implementation of the C-Change Malaria and FP/RH programs.

Essential Job Functions:
* Assist in the development and implementation of C-Change technical plans and budgets.
* Provide technical assistance in Malaria and FP/RH-related SBCC to project partners and all project related technical working groups.
* Provide support to all project capacity strengthening activities including training, follow-up and development of behavior change tools and materials.
* Prepare technical reports as required by the project and donor agency and present progress reports as required and attend any other meetings as required by the project.
* Represent the project, in technical working groups, committees or task forces addressing SBCC in Malaria and FP/RH.
* Identify and manage external technical assistance that may be required to inform the implementation of the communication program.
* Provide supervision, as needed, of external vendors or consultants, as required and coordinate deliverables.
* Provide any other technical support to the project required during implementation and as directed by the Chief of Party.

Educational Qualifications:
* Masters degree in Health Education and Health Promotion, Behavior Change, Communications, Public Health, International Development or related field.

Experience required:
More than 5 years experience with strong understanding of training and capacity building methodologies; Knowledge of state of the art behavior change theories, models and strategies and their practical applications; ability to offer innovative and practical solutions to communication challenges in developing countries: strong knowledge of USAID regulations and procedures and experience in national advocacy and planning.

Skills required:
strong technical, programming and management skills with ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, multi-task and coordinate diverse activities; work as a team member and with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
