United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF): Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist

Purpose of the post: Under the direct supervision of the Water and Sanitation Specialist Moroto, and the general guidance of the Chief Field Office Moroto and Chief WASH Kampala Office, the WASH Specialist is responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of water supply, sanitation and hygiene interventions in the eastern focus districts, as an integral part of the country Programme and Child Survival and Development goals.

Applicants should possess the following qualifications, competencies and skills:
• Advanced University Degree preferably in areas of sanitation and hygiene, public health, civil engineering, sciences related to water and sanitation or other related technical field:
• Five (5) years professional work experience both at national and international level in water supply, sanitation and hygiene with experience in household sanitation and hygiene improvement, water quality testing, community based WASH facility management system, provision of water and sanitation to pastoral community, data collection and analysis, emergency preparedness and response.
• Versatility, judgment, maturity, and the ability to work both on a team and independently. High ability to cope with stressful and difficult conditions, and political/cultural sensitivity;
• Current knowledge of development issues, policies, as well as social programming policies and procedures in international development cooperation; familiarity with WASH tools and strategies like: PHAST, Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) and School Led Total Sanitation (SLTS).
• Ability to conceptualize, innovate, plan and execute ideas, as well as to impart knowledge and teach skills. ' Organizational abilities;
• Emergency programme management and operations experience;
• Analytical, negotiating, communication and advocacy skills;
• Fluency in English language is required. Knowledge of another UN working language and local working language of the duty station is an asset;
• Good knowledge of computer management and application;
• Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment;
