Nairobi Hospital: Jobs and Vacancies in Kenya

The Nairobi Hospital has been on a steady growth curve over the last few years.

In preparation for our next phase of expansion a number of exciting new positions have opened up.

Medical Officers Ref: HRD/MO/09/10
Reporting to the A&E Coordinator, the successful applicant will attend to all patients who are presented to the A & E Department, make important decisions regarding their immediate management/further considerations/referrals; take general responsibility for the day to day running of the A & E Department.

Particular Responsibilities Include:
* Initial management, stabilization and treatment of all patients.
* Patient admission and discharge from the A & E as may be required.
* Patient referral to appropriate specialist as may be required.
* Maintaining patient confidentiality and work with professionalism.
* Undertaking of clinical procedures in the A & E.
* Hospital’s ward procedures as advised.
* ICU rotation.
* Staff clinic duties as advised.
* Ambulance duties as required.
* Participating in major disaster management.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
* Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery
* Registered with the Kenya Medical practitioners and Dentist Board
* Valid practice licences
* Two (2) years post qualification
* Previous work experience in an emergency setting
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support
* Advanced Trauma Life Support
* Paediatric Advanced Life Support

Pharmacists Ref: HRD/PHR/09/10
Reporting to the Chief Pharmacist, the successful candidates will assist in executing/implementing pharmacy operational procedures and providing efficient services at both in and out patient pharmacies.

Particular Responsibilities Include:
* Checking prescriptions for accuracy and suitability to ensure safe, economical and rational use of drugs and pharmaceutical products.
* Continuous clinical checks on all treatment sheets and prescriptions.
* Participating in drug stock taking.
* Preparation and labelling of extemporaneous preparations for both in/out patients.
* Formulation and implementation of hospital policies on drug use and pharmacy standard operating procedures.
* Participating in chemotherapy dispensing and reconstitution in accordance with the cytotoxic handling policy.
* Providing accurate drug information to patients and other users.
* Participating in continuous medical education lectures.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
* Registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
* Possession of valid annual practicing license.
* One (1) year progressive work experience.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Pharmaceutical Technologists Ref: HRD/PTCH/09/10
Reporting to the Section Manager, the successful candidates will participate in providing efficient pharmacy services to both in and outpatient pharmacies.

Particular Responsibilities Include:
* Processing prescriptions correctly and accurately for both in/out patients.
* Giving accurate drug information to patients, wards and other user departments.
* Assisting in preparation and labelling of extemporaneous preparations for in/outpatients.
* Participating in drug stocking in the pharmacies & drug stock taking.
* Checking the expiry dates of pharmacy drugs and ensuring compliance with the Short Expiry Drug Policy.
* Participating in the formulation and implementation of hospital policies on drug use and pharmacy standard operating procedures.
* Participating in the ward pharmacy service.
* Assisting in chemotherapy dispensing and reconstitution in strict accordance with the cytotoxic handling policy.
* Assisting in induction of new pharmaceutical technologists and students.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
* Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology.
* Two (2) years experience
* Enrolment with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board
* Possession of valid annual practicing license.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Radiologists Ref: HRD/RST/09/10
Reporting to the Chief Radiologist, the successful candidates will perform routine and special imaging procedures and provide image interpretation to clinicians.

Particular Responsibilities Include:
* Evaluating of diagnostic images to ensure they are of diagnostic value.
* Providing reports for diagnostic images.
* CT imaging and interpretation.
* Routine and Doppler ultrasound imaging.
* Intravenous administration of contrast material.
* Fluoroscopic screening for special procedures.
* Providing guidance to Radiographers and Ultrasonographers.
* Participating in Hospital and Departmental CMEs.
* Contributing to medical imaging research and writing articles for the Hospital’s Proceedings Journal.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
* Masters of Medicine in Radiology.
* At least three (3) years experience in a busy Radiology Department.
* Proven skills in emergency radiology.
* Excellent interpersonal relations.
* Valid registration and annual practice licences.
* Exposure to computer aided reporting will be an added advantage.

Radiographers Ref: HRD/RPR/09/10
Reporting to the Chief Radiographer, the successful applicant will carry out radiological procedures as assigned.

Particular Responsibilities Include:
* Performing radiological procedures according to the requirement of the refereeing physician.
* Producing images of high diagnostic quality.
* Assisting with diagnostic imaging services in theatre.
* Providing services in the Catheterisation Laboratory.
* Observing Hospital and Radiology rules and regulations on radiation safety, cleanliness, infection control, fire and safety etc. and to report any problems to the Chief Radiographer.
* Maintaining equipment, accessories and stock logs in allocated room.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
* Diploma or Degree in Diagnostic Radiography
* Minimum of one (1) year work experience
* Computer Literate.
* Valid registration and annual practice licences.

Physiotherapists Ref: HRD/PHY/09/10
Reporting to the Chief Physiotherapist, the successful applicant will participate in planning, supervising, coordinating and conducting in-depth evaluation of patients referred for therapy treatment for both inpatient and outpatient services.

Particular Responsibilities Include:
* Conducting evaluation and assessment of patients having physical disabilities, disorders or injuries.
* Identifying treatment goals and appropriate therapy techniques and equipment to achieve the goals.
* Planning for the most efficient and most effective treatment regime.
* Carrying out the rehabilitative program and designate the party to carry out treatment plan, e.g. patient, employee, ward staff, family members etc.
* Conducting regular evaluation of patients to assess progress and response to therapy and revise treatment program where necessary to achieve goals.
* Participating in treatment team meeting with Doctors, nurses and other physiotherapists in order to provide information regarding patient assessment and to further coordinate treatment goals and programs.
* Advising and recommending to referring doctors on necessary interventions and/or change of management,
* Developing treatment plan to be followed by patient after discharge and advising the importance of continuing physiotherapy after discharge and organizing their physiotherapy appointments.
* Instructing patient, families and other professionals in treatment techniques and exercises outlined in the program.
* Writing initial reports of results on evaluation of patient’s physical condition and preparing written treatment plan.
* Providing statistical information by preparing year end summaries on patients treated and their conditions and progress.
* Conducting educational sessions on therapy treatment.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
* Diploma in Physiotherapy.
* At least one (1) year of practice.
* Registered with the Kenya society of Physiotherapists.
