The CRADLE is a non-governmental, non-partisan and not-for-profit organization committed to the promotion, protection and enhancement of the rights of the child through legal aid; legislative and policy advocacy; awareness creation; and research, monitoring and documentation.
The CRADLE is seeking for qualified and experienced persons for the following positions:
PROGRAMME MANAGER, POLICY AND LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY
Reports to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
The suitable candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Manage and coordinate all projects under the Policy and Legislative Advocacy programme.
• Formulate annual and operational programme activity plans and budgets.
• Ensure the mainstreaming of Human rights and child rights in constitutional implementation
• Draft and audit child rights Bills and lobby for the passing of the Bills in Parliament.
• Undertake lobbying, advocacy and networking campaigns geared towards the protection of child rights.
• Mainstreaming child rights and juvenile justice into Government and Civil Society policies, programs and institutions.
• Contribute to national and international studies and research on child and human rights.
• Document current legislative and policy issues in The CRADLE publications.
• Training of staff members on legislative and policy issues.
• Resource mobilization for the programme through concept papers and proposal writing.
Qualifications
• Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with a degree in law from a recognized University. A relevant Masters degree would be an added advantage.
• Minimum of 5 years experience as a Programme Manager.
• Exceptional working knowledge of both international and national child and human rights laws and policies.
• Exceptional programming and technical expertise in policy and advocacy, specifically in the area of child rights and human rights.
• Excellent interpersonal, management and teamwork skills.
• Must be a go-getter and a self starter.
• Must have a valid and clean driving license.
PROJECT MANAGER, COUNTER TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS PROJECT
Reports to the Program Manager, Policy and Legislative Advocacy.
Responsibilities
The suitable candidate will be responsible for the following:
• Undertake awareness creation on child trafficking to the public and among civil society organizations.
• Undertake awareness creation to and enhance capacity of policy makers and legal institutions to deal with child trafficking.
• Coordinate The CRADLE’s response to cases of child trafficking.
• Develop Information, Education and Communication materials for awareness creation, lobbying and advocacy.
• Prepare quarterly and annual narrative project implementation reports.
• Coordinate the entire project and support the programme officers to achieve the project objectives.
Qualifications:
• Be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, with a degree in law from a recognized University with at least 3 years experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of child rights.
• Proven knowledge of human trafficking and in particular child trafficking.
• Proven technical expertise in project management.
• Proven knowledge in budgeting and reporting.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to details.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Must possess good lobbying skills.
• Must demonstrate professionalism and flexibility.
• Must possess good interpersonal skills.
• Must be computer literate.
• Availability to travel.
PROJECT ASSISTANT
Reports to the Program Manager, Child Right. The post will be based in Kisumu.
Key responsibilities
• Assist the Program Manager in effective management of the HIV/OVC project in Kisumu.
• Provide legal aid including representation in court
• Participate in and contribute to policy development and advocacy on child rights and protection.
• Enhance capacity of paralegals and Area Advisory Councils
• Conduct legal bazaars to increase awareness of the community on issues related to child rights and protection
• Research, document and monitor child rights and protection issues in the designated areas
Qualifications
• Minimum first degree in law from a recognized university.
• Must possess a current practicing certificate.
• Posses knowledge in children and the law.
• Computer literate.
• Knowledge of project planning and management.
• At least 2 years working experience in a relevant field.
