War Child Holland: PROJECT COORDINATOR Child protection/Education - Jobs and Vacancies in Uganda

War Child Holland is an international NGO aiming at providing psychosocial relief to children in former war and/or conflict zones. War Child Holland tries to prevent the development of psychosocial disorders and helps children to pick up ‘normal’ life by means of creative activities (music, drama, art and sports), building community awareness, education and protection programmes. War Child Holland has worked in Northern Uganda since 2004 currently works in Amuru, Gulu, Kitgum, Pader, Lira and now opening in Abim District, Karamoja Region with a country office in Kampala.

PROJECT COORDINATOR Child protection/Education

Responsible for:
management, implementation and monitoring projects (e.g. protection, education, peace building, creative and recreational programme)
Main purpose of the job: To provide technical support for the project activities and to plan, manage implementation and monitor the project and its activities in order to achieve the set goals and objectives as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Reports: To the Field Location Manager Key Result Areas
• He/she makes annual work plans including activity budgets.
• He/she supervises implementation of the activities of all staff under his/her responsibility • Liaise with government institutions, Development Partners, and Donors in the District
• He /She is a role player in strategic programme planning, and a facilitator in the implementation of agreed programme development strategies.
• He/she guides, coaches and monitors staff in the project
• He/she is responsible for monitoring security in the area and advise staff and management on security measures.
• He/she is responsible for team building in the location.
• Participate in the development of Organization policies, Fundraising strategies and building strong linkages with other like-minded organizations for effective lobby and advocacy on strategic issues.
• Participate in coordination meeting with other Agencies and government stake holders on protection, education etc
• Works closely together with WCH programme staff in other fields and liaises with project staff at other locations for exchange and mutual learning
• Regularly advises War Child Holland on new developments in the field of expertise and on any other emerging issues.
• Participating in the local, national and regional networks for child rights promotion (only for protection)
• He/she monitors project progress according to set time and activity planning and adjusts where necessary.
• He/she monitors the budget And makes sure that all administrative procedures are followed strictly and effectively
• He/She writes reports for the project(s) according to the requirements given
• He/She is the focal person on the protection/education/peace building/psychosocial issues and should be the responsible person for consistent attendance of coordination meetings

Qualifications:
The right candidate must hold a University Bachelors Degree in Law, Human rights, SWSA, Social Sciences, Development Studies or other relevant field Competencies:
• Possess strong policy analytical skills
• Having a good understanding of broader development themes such as Protection, Gender, Environment, Human rights, and conflict transformation
• Good facilitation Skills are important, as is the ability to move easily across all levels of community and its institutions
• Demonstrated ability in managing budgets
• Ability to effectively manage and function as a productive member of a result oriented team is important. • Demonstrated qualities of being very proactive, highly productive and able to work quickly and efficiently.
• He/she should be computer literate
• A team player who focuses on bringing out the best in the team members.
• Ability to network, lobby and advocate on behalf of the War Child Holland. • Knowledgeable in context and culture of Karamoja Region
• Ability to work effectively without supervision to achieve set goals.
• Fluency in the local language is an asset
• Valid motor-cycle riding permit Experience: • Minimum of 4-5 Years of experience in a similar position.
• The candidate should posses skills and experience to enable him/her work closely with rural communities in a participatory manner.
• Thorough understanding of the problems faced by rural communities and will be focused on developing ways to help them overcome challenges facing them. Remuneration: Attractive based on qualifications and experience
