COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
Tanzania Natural Resource Forum (TNRF) is recruiting a communications professional to lead its growing portfolio of media relations, community outreach, film production, public relations, and policy advocacy.
TNRF is a natural resource advocacy and communication network, made up of over 3,500 members, including individual citizens and organization from civil society and the private sector. TNRF’s mission is to bring about improved natural resource governance by being a demand‐driven network of members and partners. This network helps people to bridge the gap between local natural resource management needs and practices, and national natural resource management practices.
As a catalyst for change and improvement in natural resources management, TNRF works with communities, civil society organizations and the private sector to achieve the following objectives: to increase availability of information, to advocate for better governance and environmental stewardship through collective action, and to innovate and adapt for enhanced economic and environmental outcomes.
We encourage you to apply only if you can meet all of the required competencies. You should have work experience of at least five years and professional qualifications for all of the fields mentioned.
Required competencies:
• To manage a programme of bilingual (English and Kiswahili) communications about TNRF developments and general natural resource management information for the general public, within TNRF’s membership and across working groups, including news updates, project developments, and advocacy processes among others;
• To maintain strong relations with the national and international media as part of improving its performance and the availability of information on governance and environmental and social justice issues;
• To manage corporate communications and public relations for all TNRF partners, with a particular emphasis on developing relations with the private sector, government and development partners, to promote strong support for improved governance and more socially and environmentally sustainable business models.
• To maintain and adapt an integrated and interactive online database and physical library of resources on natural resource management;
• To support learning, training and capacity development among partners and members as part of TNRF’s programme to foster learning among its partners and members and collaboratively develop targeted training and information materials on natural resource management and advocacy.
• To support rural community‐based natural resource management networks to provide greater opportunity for rural people to exchange information and engage with governance and environmental management issues;
TNRF is expecting to expand its communications portfolio in each of the above mentioned areas. Therefore, the successful candidate should take a reflexive approach to his/her work by adapting to roles arising from the new programme. Qualifications:
TNRF is looking for a hard working and dynamic team member who has the following qualities and skills:
• University graduate with post graduate qualification in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field
• A minimum of 5 years of related experience, preferably in a organisation working on environmental and natural resource management issues, developing strategic communications for various programmes;
• Extensive and demonstrable organizational and project management skills;
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and facilitation skills;
• Self driven and motivated individual;
Remuneration:
A two-year renewable contract with three months probationary period will be offered, initially based in Arusha with travel to Dar es Salaam. TNRF will provide a competitive salary with benefits commensurate with experience and qualification.
