Mobile Ventures Kenya: Marketing And Distribution Manager

Function: Execute the marketing, distribution and retail relationship functions through pilot phases with view to long-term managerial role.Tasks Assume day-to-day responsibility for all distribution work:
a) identifying and signing up retail agents for pilot trials
b) training agents on product terms and conditions
c) developing customer marketing materials and marketing plan
d) continued support and management of agents, including regular field visits
e) developing a monitoring dashboard and drafting weekly progress reports
f) monitoring all outgoing SMS and calls to customers & agents
g) working with the pilot team to refine and improve the business plan for scaling in phase two. Reporting Report to and be actively supported by the Project Manager
Location Kilimani, Nairobi, Kenya
Compensation Competitive salary.
Starting Date By September 1st 2010 (or sooner.)
Term Initially a full time contract for 1-3 months, with potential to convert to a permanent role based on performance.

What we’re looking for
Experience:
At least 3 years experience working with retail distribution and/or direct responsibility for customer-facing services
Experience working with small retailers in rural settings, preferably in Eastern province.
Experience with (a) energy retailing (ie electricity, or kerosene), (b) renewable energy (solar), and (c) hire purchase for household appliances are all pluses. Startup experience in Kenya and experience developing customer management systems are pluses.

Undergraduate or advanced degree in a related field, such as business administration, engineering, or telecommunications.

Skills:
Solid understanding of retail distribution and sales.
Ability to effectively communicate with a range of low-income retailers and customers from across the Kenyan population.
Ability to constantly challenge a process and identify and execute potential effective improvements; deal with ambiguity and deliver with minimal supervision.
Computer fluency with web, email, and Microsoft Office programs (incl Excel.)
Fluent in both English and Kiswahili.
