The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) is a statutory body established under the Accountants Act, 2008 for the regulation of the profession of accountancy in Kenya.

The Institute is seeking qualified candidates to fill the following various positions.

Job Details

Manager Standards

HR/ICPAK/01/2010

Job Summary:

Reporting to Director Professional Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for handling various accounting standards- IPSAS, IFRS etc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Respond to Exposure drafts and Discussion papers on a timely basis
  • Prepare summary Improvements to standards-Published on quarterly basis in the Journal/website
  • Support the Standards workgroup
  • Develop reporting templates for Local and Central government and other public sector players
  • Respond to technical enquiries on Standards from Members
  • Develop an Annual Standards disclosure checklist
  • Prepare other Technical publications on Standards
  • Prepare list of new standards effective for accounts for previous year, current year and subsequent year
  • Prepare power point presentation for in-house training on specific standards
  • Develop and publish a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) guide on standards
  • Research and correspond on all Standards enquiries
  • Establish a webpage on standards on website
  • Update and maintain website information on Standards

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor of Commerce degree, Accounting option or its equivalent.
  • MBA degree
  • CPA (K)
  • 3 years relevant experience
  • Extensive knowledge in IFRS and IPSAS
  • Be computer literate

Manager, Legal

HR/ICPAK/02/2010

Job Summary:

Reporting to CEO, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal support to user departments and Company Secretarial support to C.E.O.’s Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under Regulations he/she will ensure that the Institute complies with the Accountants Act, the Companies Act and any relevant laws and regulations as is required and in particular;

  • Ensure that the Institute complies with regulations and any conditionalities associated with membership of regional and international organizations.
  • Oversee compliance with IFAC Statements of Membership obligations.
  • Monitoring compliance with any obligations arising from the IASB and ECSAFA.
  • Monitor the regulatory environment and bring to the attention of relevant departments laws and regulations that may impact on the Institute and its members.
  • Company Secretarial Services: Sending Notices of Meetings for Institute Annual General Meeting and other Special Meetings, KCA University Board of Trustees, Council and Committees and Minute taking and filing returns where necessary.
  • Providing legal services to the Institute
  • Vet and draw up of legal instruments such as contracts, leases and agreements between the Council and third parties
  • Maintain and file all court proceedings
  • Ensure compliance with IFAC Statements of Membership obligations.
  • Ensure compliance with any obligations arising from the IASB and ECSAFA.
  • Secretary to appeals committee

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor of Laws from recognised university
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in good standing
  • CPA(K)
  • A relevant Masters Degree and CPS would be an added advantage
  • 3 year experience- post admission in a Legal function or handling Company Secretarial duties in a busy organization or equivalent position

Management Accountant

HR/ICPAK/03/2010

Job Summary:

Reporting to Director, Strategy and Shared Services the successful candidate will be responsible for management accounting and provide support to the implementation of strategic plan.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for preparing performance reports , budgets and forecasted financial statements
  • Collect information from budget holders on matters pertaining to preparation and administration of budgets
  • Analyze information and reports produced by Finance and make appropriate recommendations
  • Liaise with other departments on formulation of systems and procedures that are pertinent to proper financial management control.
  • Coordinate the preparation of reports on the implementation of the Strategic Plan
  • Develop concrete growth strategies on behalf of business units
  • Identify, track and communicate key trends across markets, industries, and competitors that affect business segments;
  • Review of strategies in accordance with current market trends and guide business units in assessing business cost structures; and
  • Support the implementation of the strategic plan
  • Monitor progress on implementation of the plan and ensure it is regularly updated to remain relevant.
  • Co-ordinate the preparation of strategy implementation status reports to Strategy and Support Services Committee
  • Perform an annual review of the strategic plan.

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Holder of a Business related degree from a recognized university
  • CPA (K)
  • 4 years experience in accounting/strategic management
  • Experience in computerized accounting systems especially the use of Navision (ERP) will be an added advantage.
  • Strong computer skills, with solid proficiency in managing databases and Excel
  • Excellent report writing skills, communication and interpersonal skills

Senior Officer, ICT

HR/ICPAK/04/2010

Job Summary:

Reporting to Director, Strategy and Shared Services the person will provide support for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation and maintenance of IT systems hardware and software and related infrastructure, and also carrying out technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within IT infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Software and Hardware Installation and Maintenance
  • Network Maintenance
  • System Maintenance Support
  • Enforcing System Security
  • Website development and maintenance
  • Email server Management
  • Managing the IT Helpdesk by responding to general IT related issues

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in IT related field
  • Knowledge of ERP (Navision) will be an added advantage
  • 2 years in a busy IT environment
  • Experience in developing and deploying web applications
  • Proficient in at least one programming language
  • Proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL)

Senior Officer, Disciplinary & Investigation

HR/ICPAK/05/2010

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Manager Legal, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing investigation services to the disciplinary committee and ensure compliance with IFAC Statements of Members Obligations and any other relevant regulations affecting the profession.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with external lawyers on legal matters for or against the ICPAK concerning Disciplinary matters;
  • Conduct investigations into allegations of professional misconduct against members
  • Collect and collate evidence and recommend appropriate action to Council
  • Make summaries to the disciplinary committee on the outcome of investigations.
  • Handle correspondences relating to the department.
  • Investigate reports of illegal practitioners, co-coordinating arrest and arraignment in court in conjunction with the CID
  • Act as the Institute witness in court cases concerning illegal practice or discipline matters.
  • Support the secretary to the disciplinary committee
  • Advise the disciplinary committee on matters of law and procedure to ensure rules of natural justice are followed.

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor of Laws from recognised university.
  • Advocate of the High Court of Kenya in good standing
  • CPA (K)
  • 2 years experience in a regulatory function in a busy organization or legal firm.

Senior Officer, Governance, Advocacy and International Relations

HR/ICPAK/06/2010

Job Summary:

To assist the Manager, Governance Advocacy and International Relations in the daily tasks of enhancing the public profile of the Institute and its members through thought leadership and undertake research and organize training programmes on matters of governance and advocacy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lobby on behalf of members on matters that create value to them.
  • Position the Institute as an influential public interest leader in enhancing Kenya’s economic growth through representing views in areas where the institute’s expertise is most relevant
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships and dialogue with Parliament, Government Ministries and other Regulatory bodies with a view to enhancing the public interest role of the Institute
  • Advise on the Accountability and governance within the Public Sector.
  • Assist in building strategic relationships and partnerships
  • Provide technical support to representatives in various public bodies

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • First degree preferably in Political Science, International Relations, Diplomacy, Economics or Law
  • 3 years relevant experience in governance and advocacy
  • Additional qualifications in governance and advocacy will be an added advantage

Executive Assistant

HR/ICPAK/07/2010

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be in charge of the day to day management of the office and to provide high level administrative support to enhance the Executive Director’s effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Organize Council and Executive meetings and to prepare relevant documents.
  • Maintains various filing and records management systems
  • Reviews, proof-reads and edit documents
  • Co-ordinates and facilitates the CEO’s calendar to arrange appointments and meetings
  • Executive office management
  • Make travel arrangements
  • Assist in preparation of various reports
  • Handling various inquiries and correspondences
  • Preparation of various policy and position paper
  • Any other duties as assigned by CEO

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in Secretarial Services, Business Administration or Social Sciences from a reputable university and professional qualifications in Office Administration /Management.
  • 3 years experience in a similar position with formal training and proficiency in Ms Office applications.
  • Ability to understand business priorities and maintain confidentiality and integrity
  • Demonstrated competency in handling situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize a busy workload and deliver on tight timelines.
