Lutheran World Federation Uganda: Nutrition extension workers

LWF Uganda is an international NGO operating in the districts of Katakwi, Kitgum, Pader and Sembabule, with the aim of reducing : human suffering among the vulnerable communities, LWF is seeking individuals for the positions of Agronomist, Administrative Officer and Nutrition Extension Workers based in Pader

Position: Nutrition extension workers

Key Responsibilities:
1. Works with the Project Officer to initiate and coordinate the planning of the nutrition and health specified project activities in liaison with other sections, and ensures optimum utilization of project resources at minimum cost.
2. In conjunction with the Project Officer, Liaises with and works in cooperation with the relevant local authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders where appropriate in order to achieve the project objectives, and facilitate project implementation
3. Collects on regular basis field data on nutrition and related activities carried out, and undertakes impact assessments using participatory approaches from all caregivers to determine the relevance and impact of the project assistance.
4. Regularly visits all sites where project activities are undertaken. checks on progress, offers support supervision as directed by the Project Officer in line with the project objectives.
5. Promotes active participation of other field staff, VHTs and community health workers in the planning implementation and evaluation of project activities as required.
6. Supervises and supports food handling staff at sub-county level for the effective food commodity management. '
7. Assist the Project Officer to prepare periodical work plans and reports on sector activities and achievements in line with the requirements stipulated in the project documents
8. Train and supervise VHTs on screening for malnutrition in the community basing on mid-upper circumference (MUAC)
9. Assess for and manage all cases of moderate malnutrition as well as referral of severely malnourished individuals to therapeutic feeding centers
10. Enroll malnourished clients, supervise and manage ration distribution (premix) and exit cured cases as per the guidelines
11. Conduct cooking and backyard gardening demonstrations with care givers
12. Carry out monthly growth promotion and monitoring among the children under treatment (children) and counsel mothers.

Minimum Qualifications:
BSC in human nutrition, nutrition and dietetics, home economics or food science and technology with at least 1 year of experience,
A nurse or Social scientist (degree or diploma in social sciences, development studies or education) but must have two years of experience in community nutrition and health.
Must be able to communicate effectively in Luo
Should be able to ride and use a motorcycle of full time basis
