Lutheran World Federation Uganda: Agronomist

LWF Uganda is an international NGO operating in the districts of Katakwi, Kitgum, Pader and Sembabule, with the aim of reducing : human suffering among the vulnerable communities, LWF is seeking individuals for the positions of Agronomist, Administrative Officer and Nutrition Extension Workers based in Pader

Position: Agronomist

Basic Function of the Position
To co-ordinate and supervise the implementation of Agricultural and Food Security related activities in accordance with the project description and budget provisions as specified in the agreements,

Key Responsibilities:
1. Reporting directly to the sub Program Manager, while planning, coordinating, developing, and supervising, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all food security -related activities within the Project.
2. Develops a strategy to integrate food security needs, into the project, in accordance with existing policies, guidelines, and established LWF/WS program Procedures.
3. Manages the implementation of discrete humanitarian projects in the field, including distribution of food and non-food items to the affected, delegated by the sub program Manager.
4. Ensures there are sufficient relief items in stock, and that deliverables and distributions are undertaken in a timely, appropriate and transparent manner.
5. Work in close collaboration with the other non-governmental organizations and stakeholders in monitoring early warning systems, and implementing food security relief activities.
6. Facilitates monitoring and assessment of project activity impact on beneficiaries and communities.
7. Prepares periodic work plans and budgets for food ,non food items ,and other related activities in liaison with other section heads ,to ensure appropriate utilization of project resources
8. Provides technical support and/ training related to food security to the project assistants.
9. Prepares training manuals in agriculture for the training of the farmer groups and project staff
10. Identifies marginalized individuals and groups, and local NGOs which share the project's objectives, receives and assesses their proposals and ideas, and recommends viable self-help initiatives to the Sub Program Manager for appropriate action;
11. In liaison with the Sub Program Manager, reviews and redesigns sector strategies to address changing needs, and prepares and submits proposals as required for possible funding.

Minimum Qualifications:
• University degree in Agriculture with at least three years of experience
• Post-graduate qualification in agricultural economics, extension, crop science or project planning and management is desirable,
• Computer literacy and proficiency in project planning and management software application.
• Certificate in supervisory skills, people management and/or leadership skills is desirable. Experience:
• At least three (3) years working in a relevant field in a reputable firm, public body or NGO. Personal Attributes:
• High integrity, self-driven and able to set own work schedule with rigorous deadlines.
• Ability to initiate and complete assignments and to work under demanding circumstances with minimal supervision.
• Strong organization, supervisory, problem-solving, interpersonal, communication as well as team building and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of one of the local languages
