Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust: PROJECT MANAGER

The Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust (CSWCT) is a Wildlife Conservation NGO whose mission is to promote the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of chimpanzees and their habitats in particular and wildlife in general.

CSWCT in partnership with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is implementing a project on Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) on developing an experimental methodology for testing the effectiveness of PES as a viable means for financing biodiversity conservation outside protected areas in Hoima District, Western Uganda.

The project seeks to recruit a suitably qualified, experienced and competent professional to fill the post of the PROJECT MANAGER

The Project Manager shall be the head of the Project Manager Unit and shall report to the Executive Director, CSWCT. S/he will be responsible for all aspects of project management and coordination in collaboration with the national and international partners to ensure adequate project implementation.

The main responsibilities of the Project Manager are:
• Establish and equip an effective Project Management Unit (PMU) that will also act as the Secretariat to the Project Steering Committee and Technical Committee meetings
• Implement the operational, administrative and financial working procedures of the PMU including full compliance of all aspects of project implementation with UNEP's operational, administrative and financial management procedures
Prepare contractual arrangements for sub-contracting for the in-country executing partners of PES country.
• Prepare half-yearly consolidated technical and financial progress reports as per guidelines included in the project document
• Prepare annual PIR (Project Implementation Reviews), including updating of GEF tracking tools and any other reporting requirements for the GEF, as per instructions provided by UNEP/DGEF.
• Coordinate and update the project's MSE framework and ensure its adequate implementation with inputs from all project executing partners.
• Develop a communication strategy for the project, technical articles, papers and reports and scientific publications based on the project results
• Present project results at key regional and global forums
• Any other duties that may be assigned.

The Project Manager and the Project Management Unit will be hosted by CSWCT at the Hoima Office in Hoima Town. The position will entail a lot of travels to the project sites to maintain close and continuous supervision of project activities in the field.

Experience and Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of experience in project management, preferably with UN-implemented projects; academic background and relevant direct experience related to the technical scope of the project, particularly with regard to Payment to Ecosystem Services (PES) and biodiversity conservation; experience in environmental and capacity building issues is highly desirable; leadership as well as strong management and interpersonal skills; computer skills; strong communication and presentation skills; high flexibility and capacity to work under pressure. Full command of the English language is required for the post
