AstraZeneca: Country Manager ( East Africa Business)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
AstraZeneca responsibilities would include the business interests in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Ethiopia. In this role you will essentially be responsible for heading the operations for all aspects of the business. You must have a good understanding of the business needs and requirements of the region, a good understanding of regulatory requirements for new registrations, experience in setting up promotional arrangements and managing the same with distributors. You will take overall responsibility for all Sales,
Marketing, Regulatory, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics and Administrative matters for the region.

Essential Job Functions:
• Formulating and recommending policies, objectives, budgets, plans, procedures and schedules for the Region;
• Maintaining control over the daily and long term business from a commercial perspective within budgeted parameters;
• Establishing operational plans, developing new business opportunities, achieving the set targets and building trust amongst all stake holders,
• Providing the VP SSA with the required commercial analysis, operational- and financial reports;
• Responsible for coaching, developing, motivating and guiding the regions employees to reach their potential,
• Establishing clear direction for the region;
• Maintaining control over the daily and long term business from a financial perspective within budgeted parameters
• Co-ordinating, in consultation with the Finance Manager, accurate monthly, quarterly and annual financial forecast processes to
allow the region to generate and report high quality forecasts;
• Preparing, in consultation with the Finance Manager, actual versus budget analysis per business unit containing all financial information and report variances as well as explanations for management review;
• Ensuring that the compliance and business integrity program and culture of AstraZeneca is observed by all employees at all time;
• Assist Management in developing appropriate systems and processes, to help achieve the regions compliance/business integrity and internal control objectives;
• Preparing and implementing regular mini internal audit programs to test the effectiveness of controls;
• Representing the company in all matters with customers, distributors, governmental authorities and other parties;
• Leveraging business opportunities within the region;
• Establishing new business opportunities within the region;
• Guiding the field force management in terms of effectiveness and efficiency;
• Monitoring and guiding the implementation of marketing plans and marketing strategies;
• Conducting quality control audits and evaluating work standards and performance levels ensuring uniformity, effectiveness and appropriate staffing levels.
• Participating in hiring and promoting subordinate employees, train subordinates, assign, direct and review their work;
• Formulating the competitive strategies, new business concepts, operational effective, risk management, new business opportunities, and control the operational expenses;
• Implementing and driving the planning forecast and budget within the region;
• Co-ordinating and managing, in conjunction with the SFE/Training manager the market research plan;
• Facilitating market research related analysis by gathering and coordinating inputs from all relevant departments and stakeholders;

Requirements:
• Commercial / Scientific Degree (preferably with a post graduate qualification)
• Minimum 10 years Commercial Pharmaceutical Experience or alternatively experience in the FMCG industry will be advantageous
• 5 years regional management of East Africa
• Strong Business development skills
