Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development: Infrastructure Coordinator

The programmes implemented by ACTED in Africa, Asia, Middle East and Latin American caribbean, aim at addressing the needs of the populations affected by wars, natural catastrophes and/or economical and social crises. ACTED has been present in Uganda since 2007, and currently implements its interventions in Gulu. Amuru and Oyam [Acholi and Lango regions] as well as in Nakapiripirit (Karamoja region) where the organization works on a cross-border basis with North Pokot District of Kenya,

Job Title: Infrastructure Coordinator
Reporting to: Area Coordinator Duty Station: Nakapiripirit (Uganda)

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Supervise the construction rehabilitation of market access roads and storage facilities, including the supervision of both communities and contracting agencies ensuring high standards of work:
• Routinely compile and deliver timely status and progress reports on tools provided by AMEU;
• Verify deliveries of materials to site ensuring the right quantity and quality;
• Work with logistics department to ensure that all planned deliveries and procurements are done in a timely manner, including extra
• Work closely with Infrastructure Field Officers to engage communities and contractors;
• For any community labor (cash for work), ensure that attendance sheets are properly filled along with a community mobilize to ensure accountability;
• Work closely with contractors and site foremen to ensure that attendance and materials are properly issued, stored, and used while following procedures;
• Work closely with local authorities and ensuring the legal procedures for constructions are respected;
• Document and help build mini- guides to improve ACTED procedures;
• Ensure the safety of skilled and unskilled labor during construction;
• Ensure that projects are carried out in a participatory manner that builds on the human and material resources of the community taking into consideration their beliefs and practices;
• Report any suspicion of theft of fraud immediately and do whatever possible to prevent opportunity for theft;
• Perform any other related responsibilities as directed by the Area Coordinator.

Contract period: 8 months Renewable

Qualifications and Experience:
• A minimum of a Civil Engineering Degree or any other relevant field;
• A minimum of 4 years experience in construction activities in a similar setup;
• Ability to work in a complex environment, with short deadlines;
• Very good communication skills [both spoken and written] and ability to work closely with the community;
• Flexibility and adaptability;
• Knowledge of Karamojong language an added advantage;
• Have a good attitude to work and strong timekeeping skills;
• Be able to ride a motor bike and have a license an added advantage
