Job Title: Quality Facilitator

Function: Operations

Location: Kenya

Reporting To: Quality Manager

Job Summary:

Proficiently perform quality sampling and testing of products in PMD or SMD, record accurate product quality results in a timely manner, record number of defectives, quarantine defective products and initiate corrective action.

The job holder is required to ensure that all manufactured products meet the customer and product requirements and to keep all work areas and equipment clean at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

i. Operations/ Professional/ Business
  • Continuously monitor visual and physical parameters for cigarettes, filters, packets and outers in accordance with the Finished Product Inspection (FPI) protocols, record all relevant information and take corrective measures as and when necessary/ continuously monitor tobacco parameters
  • Setup specifications in freeway/Visual Quality Displays (VQDs) system
  • Verify that the correct specification cards and materials are used in the production process.
  • Place beetle traps, monitor and recording beetle counts.
  • Ensure brand changes are properly executed
  • Issue correct product specification and dies to operators
  • Check RH as well as temperatures in the factory to ensure conditions are within prescribed limits
  • Report Non-conformance / faults found, in line with relevant protocol.
  • Crosscheck all equipment daily before use and document appropriately.
  • Maintain the work environment in a clean and safe state through proper housekeeping and 5S
  • Learn to check all machine detectors and interlocks by simulation to ensure their proper functioning.
ii. Management
  • Identify and report any quality deviations and initiate corrective actions
  • Participate in SDWT team meetings and support their actions to deliver customer requirements
  • Ensure that the correct quality documentation is completed in accordance with laid down processes.
  • Ensure that the correct wrapping material and tobacco specifications are in use and they are duly signed off.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to operators on quality performance and initiate corrective actions
  • Comply with all EHS guidelines and procedures for quality function.
  • Carry out experiments for new product introduction and process optimisation.
iii. Leadership
  • Actively participate in all SDWT activities and initiatives in order to contribute to the team success by ensuring implementation of actions arising from the meeting.
  • Set an example of personal excellence by consistently demonstrating behaviours aligned to our Guiding Principles by supporting teamwork and proactively seeking opportunities to develop self and others.
  • Consistently demand discipline of self and others to raise standards and deliver stretch results.
  • Actively participate in Gap analysis and troubleshooting by using problem solving and improvement tools.
  • Volunteer for SDWT Leadership positions
iv. Relationship
  • Coordinate with other Team members, SDWT team leaders, Technical Executives, QA supervisors & Shift managers to ensure delivery of quality products on time in full
  • Build effective networks and working relationship within the team and leverage on it to build expertise and experience.
  • Share key information/learnings and ideas within the team on a proactive basis
  • Interact and communicate objectively and professionally with customer representatives and other service providers to sustain a relationship of mutual benefit
v. Innovation
  • Support the teams in carrying out Gap Analysis and support implantation of agreed solutions
  • Propose innovations and ideas that would improve performance and productivity to team leadership and management
Skills and Experience:
  • At least 2 years experience in manufacturing environment in an FMCG organisation
  • Knowledge in statistical process control (SPC)
  • Report writing skills - good clerical skills
  • Good communication skills to encourage and motivate others to improve the quality of their work
  • Basic personal computer skills.
Education:
  • Minimum OND in Science Field with Chemistry, Mathematics or Statistics as a major study area
