ob Title: Electrical Technician
Function: Operations

Job Summary:

The Electrical Technician ensures all electrical/electronic systems are safe to operate and in optimal condition.

The incumbent will carry out planned and corrective maintenance on electrical and electronics systems and installations including PLCs and factory instrumentation and pneumatic system to ensure maximum availability of equipment and utilities.

He will also ensure interlocks are in good working condition.

Key Responsibilities:

i. Operations/ Professional/ Business
  • Troubleshoot and carry out repairs on production lines with the aim of reducing factory downtime.
  • Carry out planned maintenance on electrical plant equipment like vacuum pumps, boilers, compressors, generators, HV panels and Voltage Stabilisers.
  • Carry out a monthly audit on safety interlocks and carry out any necessary repair.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance of electrical components and equipment to reduce cost of spares.
  • Carry out electrical installations to 16th Edition of IEE regulation standards of BAT Co guidelines under supervision of the manager.
  • Checking motors for proper operation and servicing of the same in case of malfunction.
  • Keep accurate records of daily quality detector checklists (for PMD & SMD)
  • Work on radioactive mean weight control equipment during repairs or routine maintenance under the prescribed safety standards.
  • Proper house keeping by ensuring 5S is adhered to at the electrical workshops, cabinets, catalogues manuals and workplaces.
  • Keep accurate daily records/report of work done.
ii. Management
  • Ensure all machines are safe to operate and properly maintained
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules/plans to ensure all products are produced according to the production plan
  • Take the Lead in Cost Control through optimum spares usage and downtime reduction.
  • Carry out Cleaning, Inspection & Lubrication Audits
  • Inform Management on any unusual/abnormal occurrences/observations on the machines
iii. Leadership
  • Consistently demonstrate positive leadership attributes and leads by example in order to be a good role model for your managers, peers and Technical Operators.
  • Provide task teams with all information and guidance they need to execute assigned projects.
  • Proactively create opportunities for development and growth for all trainees and technical operators through coaching and clear/constructive/timely feedback
  • Deal with performance issues in a timely and transparent manner.
  • Actively participate and lead (where applicable) SDWT activities and initiatives through others in order to contribute to the team success
  • Consistently demand discipline of self and others to raise standards and deliver stretch results.
  • Step in to support other technical operators Tier 1 and Trainees to ensure timely and effective resolution of operational challenges.
  • Lead others through Gap analysis and troubleshooting by using problem solving and improvement tools.
iv. Relationship
  • Coordinate with Technical Operators and Technical Executives to ensure smooth start-ups, services restarting after power interruptions.
  • Coordinate with Technical Operators, SDWT team leaders, Technical Executives, QA supervisors, Shift managers & Maintenance Managers to minimise and eliminate machine downtime, faults & defects.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to interact with customer representatives and other service providers to obtain full understanding of their needs in building a sustainable relationship with them.
  • Lead in building a harmonious working relationship amongst the team.
  • Help team members to build effective network and relationship that will deliver higher performance.
v. Innovation
  • Champion innovation agenda in the SDWT by proposing and implementing agreed changes and improvements that deliver better productivity, higher efficiency and improved safety
Skills and Experience:
  • At least 2 years experience working in a production environment
  • Ability to prioritise tasks.
  • Ability to replace spares on machinery and carry out necessary settings.
  • Ability to decide when to stop machinery for repairs on safety devices.
  • Able to reject sub standard materials or spare parts.
  • Good understanding of safety in a manufacturing setting. Ability to understand and adhere to Company EHS policy
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team setting.
Education:
  • The Job Holder must have at least an Ordinary National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
