PEAS-Uganda: Chief Engineer

PEAS-Uganda is an education NGO, which aims to unlock the potential of Africa by delivering equal access to affordable, quality secondary education. PEAS builds, founds and develops low-fee, self-sustaining schools where they are needed most.

By February 2012, PEAS-Uganda will be managing a network of 13 schools across Uganda and is serving as a model for other PEAS NGOs in Africa.

Chief Engineer

Key responsibilities:

Strategy - lead and develop the Project Management strategy to meet ambitious construction targets allowing the expansion of the PEAS network

Project Management - oversee the further development of Project Management procedures and policies relating to project planning, engaging contractors, logistics, implementation and M&E

Human Resource Management- manage the PEAS
Project Management team and oversee external contractors to ensure timely delivery of cost-effective and high quality work

Evaluation and Reporting- develop effective systems of monitoring Project Management processes, evaluating project outcomes and reporting to relevant supervisors and funders

Finance - hold the Project Management Department budget and implement cost-saving measures without compromising on technical integrity or quality

Qualities & Experience:
Degree level qualification in a field relating to Civil Engineering or Cnstruction Management (Msc an added advantage)

At least 6 years experience in project construction management (including but not limited to cost estimating, planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, quality control and safety management)

Knowledge of standards, codes, regulations and HSE systems relating to construction work in Uganda

Experience managing dynamic teams.

A strategic thinker able to find creative solutions to challenges in education.

A confident communicator with interpersonal skills to work effectively with a range of stakeholders.
