Oxfam GB – Somalia: Programme Accountant

Programme Accountant

Location: Nairobi with some travel to the field

Salary & Benefits: Kes 168,462

Level: D1 National

Contract Type: 9 months (Temporary)

The Oxfam GB – Somalia has a wide range of development and humanitarian programmes funded by a broad portfolio of institutional donors.

The Programme Accountant will work closely with the Finance Manager and other programme accountant to ensure and maintain a high standard of budget and financial control.

The position will also provide support to ensure maximum impact and coordination of all financial matters relating to the work and operation of the country office.

We are looking to recruit a Programme Accountant.

The Role

The role will contribute to specific programme tasks. The post holder will take lead in financial operational management and payment processing. He/she will provide financial advice to the programme team and contribute to procedures and expenditure monitoring within the Somalia Programme.

In addition the holder will provide training to the partners and build their capacity in terms of financial reporting by reviewing their financial returns and providing appropriate and timely feedback.

In addition he/she will work closely with the programme managers on donor contract management, budget and expenditure monitoring, accounting & financial management and Information systems procedure as well as responding to any Donor queries on financial returns.

The Person

To be successful in this role you will hold a relevant degree coupled with accountancy professional qualification (e.g. ACCA or CPA (K)) with a minimum of 3 years working experience in an NGO or an Audit firm.

Knowledge and experience of donor financial reporting requirements in particular with DFID, ECHO, EC,UN and CIDA will be an added advantage.

You will manage resources and deadlines with minimal supervision and have a high level of initiative.

You will demonstrate a good level of communication and be able to recommend and implement improvements.

You will also be expected to show evidence of high level of planning skills with accuracy and attention to detail.

In addition you will be able to show commitment to the organizational values and its policy on diversity. Ability to speak Somali is an added advantage.
