Handicap International: Sign Language Trainer

Position: Sign Language Trainer

Responsible to: - Disability Mainstreaming Officer

Location: Dadaab

The Position

The Sign language (SL) trainer will contribute to the implementation of the CBR project as per the project strategy and annual action plan.

He/She is expected to closely work with UNHCR and Other Implementing partners as well as HI technical trainers, Disability Mainstreaming officer and refugee team in the promotion of appropriate interventions for Deaf community and integration of Persons with disabilities (Deaf) in the Dadaab refugee camps and provide direction to the team of trainers and other service providers.

The SL Trainer will operate as a focal point and ensure due liaison with other IPs and UNHCR at Dadaab level.

He/she will be responsible for:

* Ensuring smooth flow of communication between HI and stakeholders in Dadaab refugee camps.
* Coordinating and ensuring quality of services for the deaf at the camp level.
* Supporting the smooth implementation of HI activities at camp level by ensuring participation of the Deaf.
* Provide sign interpretation during project review meetings with the staff at Dadaab and the Camp level

Qualifications and skills required:

Education: Background in Education (diploma) with a bias in sign language

Experience:

* 4 years experience in sign language interpretation.
* Experience in working with/for Deaf Persons within refugee camps an added advantage.
