Trócaire Horn & East Africa Regional Office: Jobs and Vacancies

Trócaire Horn & East Africa Regional Office (HEARO) seeks to fill the following positions within its Regional and Somalia programmes.

1. Regional Finance & Administration Manager (1- Year renewable contract)

The position
Based in Nairobi with regular travel within the region, the role holder will be responsible for overall management and control of all of Trócaire’s financial and administration activities in the Horn & East Africa Region.

This includes ensuring that all financial policies and procedures are compliant with Trócaire’s institutional policies and overseeing and supporting in the financial management of five country programmes.

The Finance & Administration Manager will take the lead in regional budgeting and financial reporting processes.

S/He will also oversee the protection of Trócaire’s assets and properties through the enforcement of internal control policies and procedures. S/He will schedule and coordinate external audits and initiate actions necessary to correct internal control weaknesses.

In addition the role holder will be involved in analysing the financial capacity of local partners in the field in collaboration with Programme Officers. S/He will manage the Finance and Administration teams based in Nairobi.

Qualifications and Attributes required;
The candidate must have a Bachelors degree in Finance /Accounting, coupled with full professional qualifications (CPAK, ACCA or CIMA). A minimum of 5 years experience in finance and administration management in an International Non Governmental Organization.

In addition the candidate must have extensive knowledge of and experience with computerized accounting systems, standard spreadsheets and database programs.

Knowledge of fund accounting, procurement and financial management of donor funded projects is a prerequisite.

Other desirable skills and attributes include strong analytical, supervisory and leadership skills.

High levels of reliability, objectivity, honesty flexibility, problemsolving skills, ability to work under pressure and good communication skills are required.

The candidate should have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Experience of working through partners and use of Agresso Business World is highly desirable.

2. Monitoring & Evaluation Officer (6 months Fixed Term Contract)

The position
Based in Nairobi with regular travel within Kenya, we are looking for a highly motivated and qualified individual with extensive humanitarian experience in Monitoring & Evaluation.

S/He will be responsible for supporting partners and programme staff to develop suitable Programme Monitoring and Evaluation systems.

S/He will generate and share regular monitoring reports to guide the implementation of field activities and the design of humanitarian response projects. S/He will also prepare relevant monitoring & evaluation reports for external use (donors, external communication, consortia, etc).

Qualifications and Attributes required;
The candidate must be in possession of a Degree in Development Studies or social sciences.

Must be familiar with the principles and current approaches in M&E in all stages of programme cycle management.

Must demonstrate M&E field experience with a focus on synthesizing and analyzing data to meet both organisational and donor priorities

Experience working through partnership models in the development and implementation of M&E systems and familiarity with minimum standards for humanitarian response is desirable.

3. Community Health Support Officer (1 Year renewable contract)
The position:
The role holder will work with the Somalia health team to support the community level initiatives of the Health Programme.

S/He will provide technical oversight, training and support to the community health workers, the Village Health Committees, and Community Mobilizers.

S/He will also support in reporting on the community level public health activities and will work to mobilize the communities for health promotion activities as well as health service uptake at the community level structures.

This position is based in Mandera with regular travel to Gedo Somalia.

Competencies:
The candidate must have a medical qualification (diploma) from a recognized institution, with a bias in community health. A minimum of 3 years experience in a similar role, preferably with NGOs is essential.

The holder should be a Somali speaker, as well as possess good skills in verbal and written communication in English. Computer literacy, team work, analytical and report writing skills is also essential.

African Research and Resource Forum: Programme Interns


The African Research and Resource Forum (ARRF) is a research, data resource, reflection and policy debate institution devoted to the resolution of the governance and development challenges confronting policy-makers and societies in the East African Community (EAC) and Great Lakes Region.

It links scholars, researchers, opinion leaders and public service functionaries to interact and shade ideas. The Forum also facilitates the evolution of regional community of scholars, activists and institutions, with a shared interest in resolving inter-African development problems.

ARRF wishes to fill the following vacancies at the secretariat in Nairobi, Kenya.

Programme Interns

2 Positions

The ARRF Internship programme aims at providing valuable work experience to fresh graduates, holding Bachelors or Masters Degrees with a demonstrated interest in development policy research and analysis as well as in ICT/Library.

Interns will be supervised by senior research/program staff for the duration of their internship. The minimum period for internship is three (3) Months while the maximum is six (6) months.

Those interested in a 6-months internship are preferred. ARRF pays only modest and a full medical insurance cover. No other remuneration is offered to the program interns.

Qualifications:

* At least a Bachelors degree in ICT/Library, Public Administration, Political Science, development Economics, Economic Policy or related social sciences. A Masters degree in any of these areas will be an added advantage
* Applicants should be citizens of any EAC member state, but currently residing in Kenya.
* Good interpersonal and writing skills will be added advantages.

Peace and Development Forum: Youth Development Coordinator

Peace and Development Forum (PDF) is a not- for profit consortium of over 200 youth self-help groups in Central Rift Valley.

With its head office based in Nakuru, PDF through partnership with Mercy Corps, an international NGO is currently implementing a local empowerment and peace building program in Nakuru and Molo districts- LEAP II.

The over-arching goal of LEAP II is to strengthen the ability of local, district, and provincial structures to address the root causes of post-election violence and promote sustainable peace and reconciliation.

PDF is working in partnership with Mercy Corps to contribute to this goal through supporting youth integration and addressing a key cause of violence through youth leadership training, small scale Cash-for-Work community reconstruction projects, and income generation activities.

Peace and Development Forum (PDF) is inviting applications from a suitably qualified candidate to apply for the following vacancy to be based in Nakuru with extensive travel in Molo district.

Youth Development Coordinator (YDC)

The youth development coordinator will work under PDF to coordinate and ensure the effective management and implementation of the LEAP II program activities.

GOAL: Finance Partnerships Officer

Job Title: Finance Partnerships Officer – Nairobi

Department: Finance Department

Reports To: Financial Controller

General Description of the Role

Management of partners’ finances (reporting to the Financial Controller):

The post holder will monitor and improve on the financial systems currently in place to ensure the following:

* Effective monitoring and evaluation of the financial management of funds by partner organizations and ensure that grants are properly used and accounted for as per agreed project proposals;
* Provide technical support to the preparation, review and approval of budgets for projects to be implemented by partner organizations;
* Strengthen the capacity of partner organizations to effectively manage, control and report on finances so that over time they are capable of managing greater levels of financial resources;
* Work with GOAL’s M&E Officer, Partnership Officer, finance department, and program management to ensure the efficient operation of the grants;
* Conduct financial assessments and reassessments of partners to identify partner capacities and where capacity gaps exist;
* Provide training to the finance function in each of the partner organizations to address capacity gaps identified.

Key Responsibilities:

* Responsible for partnership budget development and partnership financial reports to donors and others.
* Responsible for the monthly review of partner financial reports
* Undertake monthly technical support visits to each of the partner organizations
* Co-coordinate the release of partner funding cheques in line with specified controls
* Financial training of partners – workshops / individual
* Maintain an issues log on each of the partners, ensuring that issues identified in visits are tracked to completion.
* Ensure compliance with the GOAL Kenya Partner Financial Manual, GOAL Financial Manual, and Partnership Strategy, donor guidelines and any other relevant policies and guidelines.
* Assistance with cash-flow analysis – keep Financial Controller aware of cash needs
* Responsible for liaising with and providing information to GOAL auditors in relation to any partner issues
* Maintain and improve partners’ financial information systems
* Liaise with M&E officer/programme managers to ensure that expenses stated in financial reports are in line with programme activities carried out in a given period
* Liaise with M&E officer /programme managers in project proposal development to ensure donor compliance issues are highlighted.
* Provide Financial Controller with monthly report on activities, issues and problems
* Any other duties as required.

Requirements :

* Professional qualifications in Accounting (CPA or ACCA) and/or a degree in Accounting with a minimum of 3 years relevant experience, preferably in an NGO setting.
* Experience in performing audits, reviewing controls, and report writing
* Experience in partnerships, support and capacity building of local NGOs and CBOs
* Experience managing grants from multiple doneors and sub-grants to a diverse range or partners.
* Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Accounting packages essential
* Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a team.
* Good planning, organising, problem solving, analytical and mentorship skills.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

Pro-actively marketing and selling company products to potential customers.

Generating orders on behalf of the company and calling the sales department to ensure supply of these orders on time.

Organizing for and participating in exhibitions and conferences that enhance marketing of company products.

Calling to follow up on orders and soliciting for more.

Advising and actually demonstrating on the use of our products where necessary. Incase of need for in-put from our technical bench, the sales person to seek for such help.

Undertaking market research and advising management on the competitors and their marketing practices and the market trends.

Advising on prices based on the current market situation.

Doing route plans, weekly and monthly reports and submitting them to relevant departments.

Assisting in preparing field manuals and other field work documents like brochures etc.

Minimum requirements:

* Good communication skills is of prime importance. Somebody capable of sealing sales deals.
* Must possess at least a certificate or diploma level of education.
* Aged between 22-30 years.
* At least some experience in a similar position with a reputable organization.
* Practical hand on the job experience from a pharmaceutical / veterinary or laboratory equipment suppliers will be an added advantage.
* Must be computer literate.
* Good command of both English and Kiswahili (written and spoken).

Remuneration

This is purely a commission based position.

The rate is very attractive and the higher the volumes sold, the higher the take home.

NB: note that our products are easy to sell products and depending on the attitude and effort put by the sales person, one can or dreams take home pay every month.

Commission will be based on the profit from Total Paid sales done within the month.
